As you can tell, I spent last week recovering and discussing my trip. I did do OTHER things! Yes I did. I know it's shocking but I didn't just sleep and eat.
I worked too. ::grin:: Thursday was my first day back at work. :::pout:: they really didn't miss me. Bwahahh.
Friday just before we closed, Anne came by work and we decided to get some food. We weren't very decisive. She said something about mashed potatoes, so we tried St. Clair Broiler. It's a kinda diner cum homestyle restaruant. And as always it was packed. We only had to wait about 10 minutes, though. We even got an excellent parking spot! I decide to get their french dip (and a salad, greens! I ate greens!). Anne ended up not getting smashed taters. She got the friday fish fry. We were expecting something like fish sticks. Hell no, they were full fillets of (I assume) walleye and their home made tartar sauce. We were both pleased with our dinner.
Anne gave me a gift card (::snicker:: a belated birthday gift, which then became a belated christmas gift, then, I guess a belated St. Patty's Day gift? Bwahah she's as bad as me!) to Barnes and Noble. So we headed up there.
Now I HATE the parking lot for HarMar Barnes. I hate ANY parking at HarMar. It sucks rocks. Big fat slimy rocks. Rocks with teeth. Big fat slimy rocks with teeth. Blech. But I found a spot very close. So I taught Anne Janelle's (and presumably Meredith's) little ditty...
Hail Asphalta, full of grace
Help me find a good parking place.
(or words to that effect. And of course the thank you response)
I was thwarted however on my goal at Barnes. I wanted to get the DVD of Grave of the Fireflies. It's a post WWII set anime from Studio Ghibli. I suppose I should activate my Netflicks free three months and get it that way. (I need to activate it anyhow.) But I have a feeling I'll want to own it.
Anne however, purchased enough for both of us. ::grin:: Several DVDs, a couple of audio cds. Bwahah. I'd be just as bad if I hadn't had a pile of medical bills waiting at home. I should have looked at the mystery books, I need to pick up a couple of Lilian Jackson Braun paperbacks (I don't have the last two).
Nothing fun to report on Saturday. Well work is always an amusement.
Sunday, Angie and Alex joined me at the movies. We ended up seeing Ultraviolet. Eh. The visuals were great. Ang and I chortled damn near every scene when Nick Chinlund walks in. However the gaping plot holes were distracting. VERY. They don't explain the mysterious virus makes people into vampires until an hour into the movie. And there is practically no "vampire" ideology in the whole thing. A passing glimpse of a fang or two, but certainly no blood guts and gore. The vamps have the rapid movement and fighting skills always attributed to them. But that's about it. Every time the storyline got mushy (hollywood formulaic crap-shine-ola) I made a sound similar to my cat making a hair ball (with out the glottal stops). Alex actually thought I was sipping my ICEE and making a slurping noise at one of those junctures. Bwahaha.
Monday I played couch potato. I did go to the bank about four. I only had about $15 in cash. Sandi, Mom and I were joining some friends for dinner and bowling that night and I was afraid it wasn't enough cash. Turned out the bowling alley had unlimited bowling, $10/lane/hour. Since there were only four of us bowling (mom chose to just keep us company) Sandi, Sally, Linda and I played two games. The other three were fairly well matched. They all got about 70 each game. I did over 100. I remember when that would have been insulting to me. ::puffing up:: I *do* have a 218 high game (in league play, so I have a trophy to prove it, even beat the guys that year... of course i was 16 at the time. I guess I peaked early). We all had a great time getting caught up. I had forgotten to wear my Taz bowling shirt (it's in the clothes hamper, so it wasn't even clean). We all decided for our friend's fiftieth, we will come back to the same place and do bumper bowling.
After bowling, we drove back up to Black Sea for dinner. That's my favorite place, the turkish one. Less than $10 buys me more than I can eat and enough for lunch the next day (two days, that is if I hadn't been a pig and eaten it all on Tuesday).
Sandi took the day off yesterday, so it was just Jim and I. We got in some new stuff that required me to do some rearrangement. I moved some stuff around (some I didn't really need to do as it turns out) and finished the displays today. Sandi and I worked the floor. Jim, the busy little beaver, has been cleaning like a mad beaver. The back is damn near tidy. HE EVEN VACUUMED. ::shudder:: He also had found a bunch of stuff to clear out. Like plastic beads.
I cannot tell you the contempt we show plastic beads. Yes it does have it's place. We just don't want to have anything to do with it. ::Grin:: So we have these boxes, which have been sitting around for over a decade perhaps two, filled with plastic beads. Bicone rondels, faceted rounds, tri-beads, snowflake beads. Gah. I shudder to think. Anyhow I put them in a box marked special purchase, put them at 50 cents a bag and hopefully they will fly away and we won't have to see them again. Ever. And I believe somewhere we even have some plastic pony beads. Of course those are popular with the more cheesy leather and native clients.
So tomorrow I shall be counting and tagging dirty ol' bags of plastic beads. Weep for me. Actually my first goal tomorrow is finish the storage for some new base metal charms. Seems like too much work for me. I don't think we have more than 15 of any single style. It will take me up to four hours to make the storage bins for 34 new charms. Feh. Some are damn cool though. Like one of those tiny stork scissors, bicycle, books, motorcycle and the like. Some tres stupid (wedding themed, blech). But I actually enjoy that kind of thing.
The only other exciting bit of news is my cat is not very happy with me. While I was gone, I had mom feeding Sasha more cat chow than I usually give her when I'm home. I want her to eat the hairball stuff. Well now Sasha wants the cat chow all the time. She'll sit by the dishes whenever I walk by. I still give her some, but not a sustaining portion like before. Like I can talk though. I had a pint of Ben and Jerry's for dinner tonight. I didn't intent to, but I hadn't made dinner and next thing I know it was empty. ::shrug:: I suck. Maybe I'll give the cat a treat to pay my penance?
Aren't you glad I decided to fill you in my random week?
