Apparently it involves dishpan hands.
I cannot believe how many times I have done dishes since last week. Normal meals, making shepherds pie for the freezer, the pity-party coffee cake, thanksgiving dinner and all it's particulars, then I made turkey stock from the carcass, then wild rice soup from the stock. Can I get some lotion over here? My poor hands.
But I have a freezer full of food. Would have had more, but I sent the stuffing home with my folks.
Needless to say I had thanksgiving over here.
It was pretty nice actually. Mom and I had to add a few things just to get our food up to $50 (we had a $5 off coupon if we spent over $50). We ended up getting our food at Target. Got a Market Pantry frozen bird. Dad pays us back for the food if we prepare the meals for most family gatherings. Thankfully mom put out the dough, because I would have had to do some shifting to cover it myself.
But I went over to Mom's to make pies on Wednesday. Mom and Clarke came over early on Thursday (about 8:30am) to help dress the bird and put it to bed in the roasting oven. Then I made some scrabbled eggs and we finished off the coffee cake.
The bird didn't take as long as we planned. But we took it out of the roaster and placed it in the real oven to get some good color. Ended up just right. We ate right at 2pm. Had the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and corn. Pumpkin pie for dessert.
We watched movies throughout the day. Clarke selected Kungfu Panda and Indiana Jones for the early part of the day. He was watching ID4 when Dad showed up.
Dad forgot that we were having dinner at my place and drove over to Mom's. Hehhe. Claims we failed to tell him it was here. No harm no foul. Or should that be fowl?
After dinner Clarke managed to plug up the toilet. Mom has a snake at her place so she and Dad drove over to her place to get it. Meanwhile I had put the carcass on to boil for stock. Then dad took a nap while mom did the toilet duties.
I started working on some of the dishes and Dad heard me. He sent me to the other room and finished up. By then I was napping, and they were all waiting to watch the news. We're an exciting bunch dontchaknow?
After the news, we made turkey sandwiches and watched Zorro the Gay Blade. Had some more pie. Then everyone went home.
The turkey stock cooked too long and was way too gelatinous. But I made soup with it last night and it still worked OK. Next time I'll do it all instead of letting mom tell me what to do.
Including thanksgiving I've had six meals in a row involving turkey. Add to that the turkey soup, and you're looking at another three or four. ::headdesk:: Uncle!
For a change of pace I put up my christmas tree on Friday. It was rather fun remembering when I go them. All the Hallmark ornaments I picked up when
qill13 came up for baseball madness. The cool icicle ornaments we got in St. Louis. The cog5 ornament from
philately. A couple of ornaments Nancy made me over the years. Most of my childhood ornaments are still at Mom's. We ever go through those, that will be a bitch. I picked up a a couple of LED lights a month ago. I put those on, and damn they're bright. Cute little tree. Sasha came up about five minutes after I was done and started playing with my golden snitch and then moved on to kachina rattle (the rattle part is essentially a painted pingpong ball). I immediately put the tree up on a short table. Didn't stop her from investigating, but made a little more awkward to cause too much havoc.
But I my new wireless card for the CPU on Wednesday. Got it installed today. Then spent several hours downloading updates. But it works great. In fact I'm sitting at the CPU right now. Much easier to type here. The cat is curled up on her favorite cushion, next to the computer. I've got it placed on a filing cabinet right in front of the window. She's even been sleeping there during the day. Which was my original plan when I started working on the office. I wanted a place for her to sit at by that window. So she could watch for me to come home. ::grin:: It's all about me, dontchaknow?
Basically, life in progress.
