Because, talking to Mom, whose doped up on narcotics so bad she falls asleep mid sentence, is like getting medical information through a seven year old.
Ok, so here's the poop. When mom was admitted to the hospital, her lipase (a pancreatic enzyme) was over 2400 (normal is *50*). It's now down to about 145. Her blood sugars are down to 140, still higher than they'd like, but not enough to get all wonky. Bizarrely, her liver enzyme, which was high from her chemo, was normal.
If she continues to have low levels of abdominal pain, they will consider starting her on some food tomorrow or Sunday. I'm sure we're talking jello or broth. She's still got a lot of back pain, but that may be from shoveling the driveway/walk on Saturday. Her neighbor usually does it, but Tasha's been out of town a lot. If they can taper off the drugs, Mom might make sense. Today she told me it was all the "fault of the night horses" and was talking to dad about paper chairs.
We saw her intern, a doctor from her clinic, and her rhuematologist tonight. Her PCP will be in to see her tomorrow sometime. I'm going to TRY and go to bed so I can get up and be there by 8am and hopefully see the doc if she starts her rounds with mom. I don't have to be at work until 10. Dad will be in around noon, so hopefully one of us will catch her.
It's so nice to be home before midnight. I'm already in my jammies, pills taken and firing off this to my flist and emailing mom's relatives. Wheee!
Night, and thanks for all the well wishes. I appreciate them, even if I haven't had time to respond to your replies.
