The only memorable thing that happened in that 6 days @ eatfest with Uncle Seng and Auntie Karen at this tiny but wholesome establishment, that serves wicked authentic Japanese cuisine (that also comes with a wicked price-tag), and you get to watch the fishes watch you eat (raw) fish at the same time XD;
It's true.
The place, is called [Edoichi], located at Island Plaza at Tanjung Bungah.
This is the aquarium that's just right next to our table.
While waiting for the food to arrive, the family talked, while I watched the fishies swim past by
(and that's how the strange thought occurred - whoever had heard of fish watching you eat fish? And especially their own kind/species? XD;)
But aside from their fish tanks, their deco gives a pretty pleasant ambience:
The entrance, from where I'm seated. Feels like those 5-star Japanese restaurant - but to be honest, I thought it'll never make it here in this island, the land of kiam siap-ness (stinginess).
But somewhat miraculously, this little establishment has been in operation for the past few years (according to the relatives).
OH, and seems they have their own utensils and plateware too (at least, it doesn't seem as pretentious as that one maid cafe who got their stuff from Daiso LOL)
AND THE FOOD!!
IS
BLOOODY AWWWWESSOOMEEEE!!!
(sorry, no pix for the first round of food. We're too hungry to notice what we ordered, since our orders were delayed as we eat here on 1st day of CNY ^^;)
BUT
I managed to take of what's in the 2nd round (well, what's leftover, anyway XD;;;)
The guy in the white shirt is Uncle Seng (he doesn't want to be captured in the camera XD;)
Oh, at least the sashimi set survived the first round XD;
Left: The AWESOME sashimi set from the first round (from what I calculated, 3 sets of salmon + 1 set salmon belly = RM100)
BUT it was the BEST sashimi I've had to date (HONEST!!) - Shogun, and what have you, Jogoya? Doesn't come one bit close. Maybe TAO, but TAO doesn't serve salmon belly, so Edoichi wins XDDD
It was SO FRESH and SO THIIICCK and so DAMN BLOODY GOOD, their flesh literally melts in the mouth!!~
ESPECIALLY THE SALMON BELLY!!
(now I know why Auntie Karen favoured the belly so badly ---- it was sinfully too good. Really.)
Middle: The grilled Saba (mackerel). We all thought it's gonna be small (since most mackerels sold in the markets are small), but we didn't know the chef knew we were coming XD;, and so somehow managed to dig a big 'un outta his storage and grilled it to perfection. The 5 of us polished the fish clean XD;;;
Right: Actually, it was Auntie Karen's idea to let us eat here - just so she can order her favorite dish, the salmon belly teriyaki (LIKE WOAH!!!~~). Georgie said it's *always* out of stock, but for Auntie Karen, she reserved one (lucky, I guess? XD;) and so the moment I bite into one slice---
...well, of course the raw one tasted better, but it's still REALLY good, nonetheless.
By the end of the 2nd course, we're all stuffed (didn't know the relatives can REALLY eat),
I know I myself am stuffed full with all the various sorts of salmon and oh, fish (it's A DREAM FEAST COME TRUE~~~~)
And for dessert, we had matcha ice cream (which fails slightly --- you can taste all milk and ice but no green tea taste.)
And to be honest, for eating 2 whole rounds of Japanese food, I think we sorta shocked the staff slightly XD;
(coz we got VERY nice thank-yous from everyone working there --- when we first entered, no one save Georgie bothered to greet us ^^;;)
And so, for our mean feat (actually, the relatives credit me, much to the shocked amusement of the parents, coz the bunch realized whatever they'd ordered, I'd polished at least one half of each order...especially the sashimi set),
Georgie gave me a VIP card for free on that night:
I was about to tell her I'm from KL when Georgie sorta guessed I'm from outstation (seeing that Penang people can't eat as much as a KL person can) and promptly
presented to me the name card, with one Edoichi branch located at Solaris Dutamas, which is just in the vicinity of Mont Kiara.
WHICH MEANS YAAAAAAAY I GET TO EAT IN KL TOO!~~~XDDDD
The card has the usual members' priviledges (and 10% off the total bill)
but the parents and relatives likened it to being
My official license to pig out eat a salmon fest XD;;;
Sadly, I never knew what the total bill woulda cost ^^;
(coz Auntie Karen insisted that she pays...)
But I guessed it would be somewhere around the hundreds...prolly RM300+, since there's the 5 of us.
But yeah, now I know my relatives DOES like to eat Japanese food 8DDD
The old man swore not to touch another raw salmon again (HAHAHAHA he said they tasted weird on his tongue!)
Mom said we really ate too much XD;
and
I felt that I've fulfilled at least one thing that had seemed impossible to achieve - and that was to eat a great salmon fest. And at the same time, discovered my seemingly endless capacity to eat that much raw fish in 2 hours. ^^;
Next goal : Try out Edoichi at Solaris! :D
