HOMG WTF HAVE THEY DONE TO THE DMC UNIVERSE!!!

Apr 08, 2009 02:00

...forgive me. The die-hard-core DMC fangirl in me needs to release this outta the system before it completely break my mind.

WARNING: It's a long and LOUD rant. Thankfully the loud part is short. Still, best to be warned first. I apologize in advance if the loud capitals annoy you - I've tried my best to keep it to just 4 lines.

I just got news about the new DMC4 novel, listed to be 2 volumes, and the Jap version has just been released on 1 April 2009 recently in Japan.

...I don't know if the writer/Capcom is REALLY pulling an April Fools' joke, but from what I've read from a DMC forum 'round the Net...a Japanese fan managed to get her hands on the book and started reading it...

...and shared it with the forum...

...in which I happened to stumble upon...

and then I

DISCOVER the F-UGLY fact that Nero is the SON of Vergil...

...has totally destroyed my mind.

*start LOUD rant*

DAMN YOU CAPCOM!!

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THE DMC SERIES?!?!

AND DAMN YOU KENTARO YASUI!!!

WHAT FUCKING CRACK WERE YOU ON WHEN YOU WERE WRITING THE BLOODY NOVEL!!!

*end rant*

...as if it isn't bad enough bringing Nero already into the spotlight, as I'd rant AGES ago in one previous entry ---> [Devil May Shock]

Now they REALLY turned the entire HISTORY, no, LEGACY of the Sparda family upside down.

...If Hideki Kamiya-sensei's heard this (I think he did, being in Japan and all), I BET he's probably STEAMING with teeth grinding already, seeing his beloved creation getting abused and worst now, getting BASTARDIZED even further.

...of all things. WHY.

WHY TARGET VERGIL?!

EVERY TIME, THIS TIME ROUND. Especially for DMC4.

LEAVE the Dark Slayer in peace already.

He's done his job in DMC3 - HECK, the secret ending WAS the BEST ending you have offered him.

(Briefly on the ending: It was when he was soundly beaten by Dante, making him fall (FALL FROM GLORY!!!) into Hell...and upon discovering Mundus, thought that if his father can do it, so he can to - but at his weakened state, he was easily defeated and then...corrupted.)

BECAUSE it tied in with the original game in DMC1, when Dante found Vergil once more - only in a corrupted form as Nelo Angelo, forcing Dante to commit something he would never do if given the choice but in order to SAVE his brother, Dante HAD to KILL Vergil, to end his suffering and enslavement to the Demon King Mundus - the very Demon King that His Lordship Sparda had almost got himself killed for sealing the Demon King into oblivion - and kept it that way for almost 2000 years.

(What I've written above, IS the accurate retelling of the entire DMC legacy, from Sparda to his sons)

So having nicely tied all that in DMC1-DMC3...(hell, it was EPIC already)

...WHY THE FUCK do you have to BASTARDIZED the SPARDA LEGACY by suddenly writing about

Vergil having a son called Nero, 17 years prior to the events in DMC4, when "A man called Virgil met up with Sanctus, who murdered the previous church leader with poison around that time" and tying in with "Nero is 17 years old, and his arm was hurt by an Assault (demon creature) one month before the events in DMC4.

The very words I read was, "Sanctus met up with a man with a sword called Virgil. Sanctus knew that Nero was the son of that man Virgil..."

....

....

UUUUAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH

*tears hair, clawing at unsuspecting victims, and ferociously tries to destroy Capcom and the lousy author they'd hired with 20++ rounds of Mega Flare!*

When they couldn't leave the Dark Slayer in peace by turning him into some spiritual clone that bloody Nero can call forth when he'd Devil-Triggered...

...NOW they had to make people think/guess that for SOME STUPID REASON, Vergil took an unsuspecting female victim, got her pregnant, then left to fight Dante in DMC1 - leaving behind some crock Nero to take over "his sword" when the time arises.

JUST DOESN'T MAKE ANY FUCKING SENSE!!!!!

This is the timeline of the DMC series:

Timeline of the games:
DMC3 ---> DMC1 ---> DMC4 ---> DMC2

Because in DMC1, Vergil is NO LONGER VERGIL but Nelo Angelo @ corrupted, and he lost his humanity and all.
And even if people who wrote the chronology HAPPENED to be wrong and said it's supposed to be set after DMC3, it's still NOT possible because events in DMC1 occur just a few years after DMC3 - there's NO WAY NERO can grow up THAT Darn fast, can he?

JUST BECAUSE Bloody Nero (yes, I HATE HIM TO THE FUCKING CORE RIGHT NOW!!!) was able to join the broken Yamato (YAAMAAATOO - Sparda's SWORD! THAT WAS GIVEN TO VERGIL!!! DAAAMMNITT!!!) together when he'd awakened, and able to materialize/de-materialize the sword INTO HIS FREAKY ARM (which IS SO DAMN WRONG ALREADY!!!), and EVEN MORE so required the sword in order to DT into the Vergil-copy-clone...

...that's the relationship between Yamato, Devil-Bringer Arm, and Bloody Nero.
JUST LEAVE IT AT THAT ALREADY.

DON'T WRITE SOME CROCK SHIT ABOUT NERO BEING THE BASTARD SON OF VERGIL WHO CAN WIELD HIS FATHER'S SWORD AS FREELY AS HE WANTS TO!!!

...God.

The previous author for the DMC1 and DMC2 novels didn't even GO this far.

Sure, he wrote some crock shit in DMC1 about Gilver (Vergil) coming to kick Tony Redgrave (Dante) into heaven and hell and around the place just to get more power, and who subsequently lost and went back to Mundus' side @ Mallet Island, BUT at least he kept the consistency of the family-relationship - and the ending opened up JUST NICELY to the beginning of the DMC1 game, as Trish'd made her appearance and offer to bring Dante to Mallet Island - where THEN he'd found his corrupted brother, found his father's sword (Sword of Sparda), and kicked Mundus' ass once again like his father did.
So in a way, the novel at least still retain SOME relationship to the game.

In DMC2, dude went a bit overboard (at that time) when he'd write about Dante being sucked into some other bloody dimension (damnit, AU!!!) where Sparda's HISTORY was reversed - instead of triumphing over Mundus, he was sold out by his own followers by getting captured and brought to Mundus to be imprisoned, tortured and subsequently killed. Eva was left running for her lives with sons, with young Dante getting captured by demons and was subsequently lost while Vergil who survived all that and grew up died many years later in fighting the armies of Mundus.

(AU because the REAL DMC history is:
Sparda tore the Demon King asunder in a legendary battle when Mundus threaten to kill Eva/his family, sealing the Demon King into oblivion, along with Sparda's own powers and his sword (in where in DMC3, crazy Arkham got the power and sword when he'd reopened the demon-gate that Sparda has sealed 2000 years ago). When Sparda eventually disappeared, leaving behind Eva and her sons, Eva herself was killed by demons, making her sons on a run for most of their childhood from demons coming after them for what their father has done. Vergil was lost to Dante at some point (where he was presumed to be caught and...corrupted by the demons), while Dante survived all that hell, and grew up to become a Devil Hunter, hunting those bastards who took his mother's life and who took his brother away from him).

*breathes* Sorry for the long DMC history lesson, but it's essential in order to understand the Sparda legacy.

So...back to the topic. Said author went AU with the story in the DMC2 novel, but it wasn't so bad as Dante, supposedly the LOST son, came back and trounced Mundus once more before returning to his original dimension - and the story ended with the opening of the DMC2 game, when Lucia threw a map and dagger at him in the museum they were hitting, and led him to Dumary Island to fight the DMC2 primary antagonist, Arius.
(So y'see, even the DMC2 game has a mirror/parallel relationship with DMC1, when Dante was brought to some island by some chick to beat up a mega-evil boss.)

DMC3...there was no novel, but they were 2 manga. The manga's pretty stable (although a bit lacking) in terms of relationship to the game - it tells the beginning of HOW Dante FINALLY saw Vergil after all the years they were split up - because it eventually connects to the game where when Dante meets Vergil for the supposedly first time (in the game), Dante said, "Well, this is what they call a heartwarming family reunion, huh?"

(for as a normal reaction, the first thing you'd do when you'd seen your long-lost sibling, is to get shocked - as what he did in the manga.)

And now, when it comes to the novelization of the beginning to DMC4...

...*shudders*

Sure, WHAT Mr.Kentaro Yasui was trying to tie the ends in the game were:

1) Bloody Nero in the game, had no known parents - BUT to make VERGIL as the parent, is DOWNRIGHT FUCKING WRONG. I should be thankful that he DIDN'T write it as Sparda - I will then KILL the author in every way I can.

2) Bloody Nero can handle Yamato just as naturally as Vergil can - we as the gamers were given the impression that when Vergil "died" in DMC1, his undying spirit somehow live on and SOMEHOW got itself attached to Nero's arm - BECAUSE when Nero "awakened", he'd uttered the words as a power-hungry Vergil would approve,

"From that day forth...my arm changed...and a voice echoed "Power! Give me more power!"

BECAUSE IF NERO has REALLY descended from Vergil, he would have obtained his demonic powers naturally by birth/via awakening, NOT through some STRANGE arm-deformation process!

3) Bloody Nero has the same blue eyes, fair skin and white hair as the rest of the Sparda family - BUT THAT DOES NOT BLOODY HELL ENTITLES HIM TO BE RELATED!!! BECAUSE it would have meant either Sparda had got another woman (GOD FORBID!!!) or as the author HAD attempted here, one of the sons has messed with a female - BUT the victim turned out to be Vergil. (Not Dante, I BET it's because it'll be EVEN more wrong.)

4) Bloody Nero has the same soft spot for humans, as supposedly to be said for Sparda (BUT His Lordship is on a different level!!! Dante in the anime says so!! That "he can see that they (Sparda and Eva) loved each other very much"!) - if Nero's related to Vergil, THE Vergil who HATES every damn mortal/demon/2-legged creature who crosses him or stands in his way, Nero would NEVER whined that bloody much 75% of the time in the DMC4 game for Kyrie.

THEN AGAIN, IF VERGIL DETESTS MORTALS SO MUCH IN THE FIRST PLACE, WHY THE HELL WOULD HE WANT TO EVEN COUPLED UP WITH A MORTAL WOMAN TO FURTHER SOIL THE BLOODLINE OF SPARDA, IF VERGIL IN THE FIRST PLACE TRULY DESIRE TO BE A TRUE, FULL-BLOODED DEMON AT THE VERY BEGINNING!?!!?

So y'see...it now gives me the impression that the author DOESN'T understand Vergil, NOR the history of the Sparda family/legacy, very well. And then he DARES to attempt to write a novel for it. Unbelievable.

5) Bloody Nero's clothes are blue and red - a combination of Dante and Vergil's colours. But blue and red MAKES purple (Sparda). So it gave the bloody author even further artistic license to try to incorporate Nero into the family

-WHEN in the BLOODY FIRST PLACE, when the NEW character designer (because the original creator @ Hideki Kamiya was forced to leave Capcom) wanted a NEW main character for DMC4, all that lazy sod did was ref the colours from the previous characters a.k.a. Dante, Vergil, Sparda.

THEREFORE, NERO, BLOODY DEAR NERO, IS BLOODY HELL JUST CREATED FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF GELLING WITH THE DMC UNIVERSE. EVEN the designer himself had claimed so in so many articles - he was seeking to create a character that "can relate well to the DMC universe as well as to fans."

SEE?!?!?

THEREFORE,

CAPCOM, I sorely HATE you. I've been your loyal staunch supporter all these years, and you've broken my heart by hiring some third-rate author to write RUBBISH and literally destroyed whatever fond memories I have of the DMC universe I used to love.

MR KENTARO YASUI, If you CANNOT or WOULD NOT want to understand the DMC universe, DON'T WRITE ANYMORE. Just stick back to your Ragnarok stories, as crap as they are in the first place - WORST adaptation of the Norse mythology, EVER, DON'T even get me started on WHAT you did to Loki in your series. I DAREN'T know what you did for the subsequent novels of Trinity Blood when Sunao Yoshida-sensei has passed away, but for out of love for ToriBura and out of respect for Yoshida, I DO NOT want to find out.

BUT PLEASE. PLEASE.

DON'T corrupt the DMC universe anymore.

DON'T bastardize the Sparda legacy anymore.

DON'T MESS with Vergil anymore. Give the Dark Slayer some peace.

Or since Capcom went and throw him into DMC4 as the copy clone ALREADY - AT LEAST GIVE HIM A BETTER CONNECTION TO THE GAMES, RATHER THAN TURNING HIM INTO SOME FATHER OF SOME GODDAMN CHARACTER FILLER.

Vergil/Gilver/Nelo Angelo DESERVES MUCH MORE THAN THIS. Don't humiliate the corrupted son of Sparda anymore, as corrupted as he is. Without HIS corruption, Dante and the DMC1 game wouldn't have happened in the first place.

...to dear Vergil if he ever read this: I'm sorry for the crappy things these STUPID mortals have done to you. I wish they had leave you in peace and as the way things were as in DMC1-DMC3. I will NOT think that way of you, as MUCH as the author tries to force it.

...to His Lordship Sparda and the rest of the DMC cast: I am probably as equally irate as your creator Hideki Kamiya-sensei. But we can't do much about it, not when bloody CAPCOM/the guy who took over Kamiya's post as director/producer for the subsequent games after the 1st game didn't exert enough control over the materials/way of writing for the DMC4 novel. For that, we can only empathize and share the pain of one creator to his beloved creation. We wish more can be done.

On my side...I'll keep MY memories of the DMC universe as it is BEFORE I made that unfortunate discovery. I wish I can forget I ever found that fact, but the damage's done. All I can do on my part, is to preserve things as I remember them, NOT as dictated by Capcom/Kentaro Yasui.

And just PRAY that Bloody Capcom doesn't screw up in the future.

Or go and hire another crock-shit author who doesn't understand ANYTHING about DMC.

...there's only just so much damage that I can take before my heart is totally broken and eventually give up on this wonderful fandom that I've kept up with for SO many years, since the FF days. I WISH it will not end in such a manner. I really do.

....

....alright. That's a very long and powerful rant defending Vergil and the Sparda legacy.

At least I'm cool now. I was SO STEAMING MAD when I first made that discovery.

And at least this thing's outta my mind and my system - or I will definitely will NOT be able to sleep later.

It's time to call it a night. Sorry for disturbing the peace.
