Well, I just got back home last night after spending the last few days in Minnesota for MCAD's yearly "School Girls and Mobile Suits" event.
It was a lot of fun!
I watched some of the panels of the other speakers which were really informative and interesting. Some of the speakers were college professors who really examined manga and anime in an interesting way. There was also a pretty cool fashion show with some interesting looks:
There was also a cosplay competition. Check out this adorable Conan!
Another highlight of the trip was getting to meet Tokyopop editor Jeremy Ross in person. He was super nice and we had some good conversations. Here's a pic of him with me and my fiance, Will. I look kind of goth in the photo for some reason. But I'm really not!!
I also took part on a panel with Jeremy, Trina Robbins ( who wrote the book "
From Girls to Grrlz" and the graphic novel series
GoGirl) and Wendy Wong, a professor and author of
"Hong Kong Comics: A History of Manhua".
The most nervewracking part of my trip was when I had to give a solo presentation about my work and process and tips and tricks. I'm not a very good public speaker but somehow I got through it without making too many blunders (I think!).
Here's a couple slides that I showed of my workspace:
This is my computer, custom built by my techie brother. Note the advil by the monitor...
This is where I spend the most of my time drawing Sabrina. Note: Swiffer Dusters are affordable and great for bushing away eraser shavings.
This is my ridiculous manga collection. I don't even want to think about how much money I've spent over the years...
Anyway....
I had a fun time and I'm honored that they asked me to take a part in the event. Thanks, MCAD!
I'm glad I got home in one piece but now I've got some catching up on my work to do!! -_-
