I don't think you could have done anything different.
From what our sources tell us the SDCC is a corporate driven convention (this is pretty obvious). They don't want to chase around the "Little Guys" for $.
The artist alley has been cut in order to make space for food stands. People come for the film industry and already established, money making, huge name properties. I don't want to sound negative, but imagine, there are so many small press people and artists WORLD WIDE who try to attend this show.
When we went a few years ago, we showcased a Manga/Euro Disney kinda style. American Manga Disney cross over was really not huge at the time so we kinda stood out in the mainstream comic industry. It's funny 'cause we were approached by a Disney rep.
I guess what I am trying to say is show them something that is different???
That's good advice. It's not enough just to show a product - it obviously helps if it's really unique. (And even better if it has a connection with Disney, hehe ^_^)
yea, this is a sad but unsurprising turn for SDCC. It seems that if you don't have a corporate sponsor its going to be tough to get space there from now on.
I think there's going to come a point over the next decade or two where the whole point of the convention being held is movies and multimedia events and Not comics.
Yeah, I understand what you both are saying. I know it's becoming more and more corporate and that the little guys get shut out. I guess I was under the misconception that the Small Press area was more accessible. I realized that Artists Alley is very competitive and tends to be reserved for bigger names, but when I went to SDCC last year I noticed quite a few "little guys" in the small press area selling ashcans or little crafts/sketches and it seemed to have a better vibe. Oh well... I'm just going to have to find other venues to promote my work...

Still there is a chance you might get in.
We'll think positive thoughts for ya!
