have you ever had the urge to wave to a complete stranger?
why is this? why do we have such a strong need to make eye contact but the moment we do we give a terse smile and quickly look away embarrassed?
why should we be embarrassed? at that moment you have something in common; you are riding a bus together or sitting through the same agonizing class. we should want to make connections with the people around us but fight the urges to make that first step. why?
these people are probably more interesting and educational than the meeting you are late for or british literature in the 21st century.

which reminds me, i picked up a memo from the lit department today and they had spelled literature wrong. not only is it the name of their department but it is also the department that is most concerned with grammar and spelling of the english language, so why not take 20 seconds to realize you spelled the name of your department wrong? I thought this pretty much summed up the lit department of my school and the reason why i'm only a lit minor.
(i also realize my own disregard for grammar and spelling but i am not the lit department and don't pretend to be good at either. Unlike the grad students in my latin american lit class. one of which was probably the fuck up who misspelled literature.)

the end.
