Wow, is Terry Goodkind ever full of himself. Apparently, his novels aren't fantasy because fantasy doesn't revolve around plot, and people trying to pigeonhole his books as fantasy are being bigots. Ahahaha. I tried to read his first book, and let me tell you - most of those "sub-par" fantasists who "don't" write novels write better plotted, more elegant and much, much more entertaining novels than his could ever hope to be.

Just so you know, Mr Goodkind: fantasy is a genre like any other. Sure, you're going to get novels that have a plot as interesting as a bowl of plain oatmeal, but you get that in every genre. Mysteries that aren't remotely mysterious, romances that aren't even slightly romantic, etc. But saying the whole genre is lesser than some other genre simply because it centres around more mystical and magical elements is pure arrogance.

This is the quote I like best: The essential attributes of a novel are: Theme, Plot, Characterization. These are not the essential attributes of a fantasy book.

Newsflash, dimwit: fantasy novels need a theme, plot, and characterization as much as any other goddamn book. And another thing? Your theme is recycled, your plotting is weak, and your characters are cardboard cutouts. Those fantasy authors you seem to scorn by refusing to be one are often much, much, much more talented than you are.

Y'know, it really irks me when authors start to believe their random fanboys and girls and start to act like they're godlike. He's like the male version of Laurell K. Hamilton. Richard's his Marty Stu!
