homosexuals live unhealthy lifestyles, guys.

I'm doing research for an essay on LGBT rights, and it's pretty disgusting how biased most stuff is. One collection of "facts" (taken from the alleged International Organization of Heterosexual Rights website [which is no longer online]) is quoted on nearly every page, it seems. I don't care what your opinion on gay rights is; no reasonable person could possibly believe that stuff. "One study reports that the average homosexual has between 20 and 106 partners per year." Yeah, I will admit that I am not the average homosexual, having been told time and again that I am "the straightest gay guy ever," but none of the other gay people I know fits these ridiculous (and probably falsified) statistics.

Also interesting: according to these stats, "[h]omosexuals live unhealthy lifestyles, and have historically accounted for the bulk of syphilis, gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, the 'gay bowel syndrome' (which attacks the intestinal tract), tuberculosis and cytomegalovirus." The previous line says "[h]omosexuals account for 3-4% of all gonorrhea cases, 60% of all syphilis cases, and 17% of all hospital admissions (other than for STDs) in the United States." Correct me if I'm wrong, but even if the numerical statistics are entirely factual, 3-4% (of gonorrhea cases) cannot possibly be "the bulk." In fact, 3-4% would constitute the opposite of a bulk, whatever that is.

The real kicker is in the end when the writer begins to get snarky. "59.6% of homosexuals are college graduates. 18.0% of the general population are college graduates. Too bad they aren't smart enough to listen to God. 'Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools' (Romans 1:22)." Referencing the Bible and making snide remarks does not make your arguments any more valid, sir or madam.

Similarly, most of the (extremely rare) positive statistics on homosexuality seem to be equally biased in the opposite direction. Saying that 10% of the world's population is homosexual is almost certainly a huge overstatement, if my personal experience means anything at all. I could believe maybe 2-5%, but there is no way that one in ten people I will ever meet is gay. That is utterly unrealistic.

I realize that the internet is not known for its neutrality, but at three in the morning, I just want some unbiased facts.

internet, people
