I attended (not raced*) my first mountain bike race over the weekend.
I plan on (hold me to it) racing the 24 Hours of Moab next year, it was so much fun to watch and
support (mechanic, moral support). The night sky stars were amazing in the desert and the sunsets and sunrises were spectacular too. In a nut shell, teams of 5,4,2 or 1 member(s) start racing a 15 mile loop at noon on a Saturday. Unless they are riding solo, they typically hand a baton off to another team member. But, true to the race's name, they don't stop until noon on Sunday. At night you can see a 15 mile long string of headlamp/christmas lights across the valley. Just amazing.
* Long ago, in a time before summer, I made a sad attempt to get back into shape. In the same vein as people who renew the gym membership they never use, I too, belong to a
mountain bike racing team sans me racing. I haven't raced, at all, not once, this entire season. I went on a few practice rides, attended as many meetings as I could, but yeah.... I suck.
