Writer's Block: Big Debates

Mar 15, 2009 17:01

I actually wrote a big paper on this, but on the Biblical ramifications. My teacher was really shocked that I chose this topic, because everyone else just wanted something simple and not too daring like divorce and slavery, but in the paper I pretty much used a bunch of scientific facts and actual Bible verses to support my belief that God approves stem cell research! If you wanna read it, lemme know. But basically, I stressed that when embryonic stem cell research is done properly, using embryos that have been donated or are about to be destroyed (many women have embryos left over from IVF treatments, and after a certain amount of years, the embryos just disintegrate and are basically flushed down the drain) it's not crossing a line. Everyone tries to make it a moral issue or a religious issue, but it doesn't have to be an issue at all. Research is not good, bad, or dangerous. What people do with that information is what makes it good, bad, or dangerous. When funded by the government, it can be supervised and rules can be put in place to keep it from going too far so that it turns into a baby-buying (killing) environment and it can also keep the information gained through this research going the right directio. Stem Cell Research has so many promising ramifications for many horrible and debilitating diseases that right now have no cure. What on earth is wrong with trying to heal a person and save them from suffering?
