So long, 2008, and thanks for all the fish. This year's
yuletide story wot I wrote:
Fire, Measured By What Doesn't Burn You dreamed about the war. You met the girl of your dreams.
Fandom: Fairy Tales (traditional) | For: Iuile | Words: 13,233
A modern retelling of "The Twelve Dancing Princesses." No disclaimer necessary this year; in fact, these are original characters and as such I suppose I own them.
Some notes I forgot to include on the story itself: The title is drawn from a poem by Hilda Raz.
Sur La Lune was my primary resource for versions of the original story. My superfantastic, intergalactic betas were
catechism and
cesario. (
equusregia,
thepurpleswitch and
sinquepida also provided early readership and guidance, and I must mention
cesario again, because she not only betaed but alphaed and held my hand tight through the entire process, and may, in fact, be a saint.)
This was a great writing experience--thanks to the recipient for a wonderful opportunity--and I've been really overwhelmed by the lovely response to the story. It doesn't get any better than this. (Feedback is like crack!)
