So, the opera was wonderful, of course. There was a surprising amount of Russians in the audience, but then once I actually thought about it (the opera being in Russian and all) it made sense. The only thing was there was this annoying guy behind me who was talking during the first act until the woman next to me shushed him really loudly and then he booed the soprano at the end. Her voice did wobble a bit at the end on the really high note but it didn't crack or fail or anything like that. There's no reason to act like an ass like that.

The set was quite beautiful too (this wasn't the same opera I saw but the same setting).

We ate at "The Village" in The Italian Village which had great food.

On a completely unrelated note: BSG. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm insane. I heard somewhere that if you can ask yourself if you're insane then you probably aren't. Rats. Work is really slow this time of year and so my mind starts to wonder to non-work items. Everyone stands around and talks about American Idol and though many people love that, show I can't stand it. "Let's talk about one of my shows!" I say. "What do you watch?" they want to know. "House and Supernatural and Prison Break, I guess," I tell them. "I don't watch those," they say. "Battlestar Galactica?" "I'll never watch that." :(

I'm not going to lie. I've got this thing for Gaius Baltar. He's not what you would call a 'normal' guy. In fact, he's kind of unlikable. He's always thinking of himself - he almost stole an old lady's lottery number in order to get off the dying Caprica. He's the worst kind of boss, the kind of guy that hands off his work to others and then takes all the credit
- of course, when you hand all of the important work over to a cylon to finish, you can't really be surprised when the universe goes ass over teakettle. He's a really shitty president. I mean really shitty. But he's a fantastic dresser and, judging by all the women he's slept with, is great in the sack.

But is he something more?

In "Six Degrees of Separation" (1x07), as Baltar mocks Virtual Six's belief in the Cylon God, she suddenly disappears, only to be replaced by a "real" Six in the form of Shelly Godfrey. In "A Measure of Salvation" (3x07), Baltar projects himself onto a beach with Virtual Six to withstand his torture by Number Three/D'Anna. It seems as though virtual Six and any "real" Six can never exist together in the same room with Baltar. Why is this? So you have to wonder, is Baltar "projecting" (a Cylon ability) or what? Are they connected in some way? Is virtual Six an "angel from God" as she says she is?

Another possible use of projection is the vision by Baltar of the ruined Opera House restored, as in "Kobol's Last Gleaming" (1x13). But then President Roslin sees the Opera House, too. Her vision is supposedly "drug induced".

And then there is also a virtual Baltar in Caprica Six's head. But if he was a projection then all the other Cylons present in his company would see him as well, right?

It seems as anyone who sees these virtual beings is involved in some basic, fundamental way with the Cylons; Kara, Baltar, Caprica Six.

The hybrid on the Cylon basestar touches Baltar and says 'intelligence' and 'a mind that burns like fire' because he's human or something else? Or is it just the mad ramblings of a hybrid? Probably not since she/it helps the Cylons/Baltar to find the way to the Eye of Jupiter. She also calls Baltar "the chosen one" as in "the sins revealed only to those who enter the temple only to the chosen one". But the five were revealed to D'Anna/Number Three and not Baltar, which makes the two parts of the sentence mutually exclusive. Or are they? They could be two separate ideas, one being "the sins revealed only to those who enter the temple" and then taking that first part and applying it to the last 'the sins revealed only to the chosen one'. The five might be revealed to all that enter the temple, meaning when you step on the eye and receive the fatal vision, and to the chosen one. If he had been able to step on the magic vision thing, would he have been able to see the five and live? Or did getting knocked out save his life?

In the end I wonder if perhaps Baltar is going to be revealed as something between human and Cylon.

So what do you all think? I would love to discuss this with anyone. God, that makes me sound so desperate. I'm just so excited!
