Here comes the sun!

In my philosophy class, we are reading Descartes and his 'question everything mentality'. He believed that we cannot prove our hands or real, our eyelashes, the computer screens we're reading this very moment, because they are simply sense impulses being intpreted by our brain, senses that at times deceive us and therefore could never be trusted. The only thing, Descartes stated, that we can prove the existance of is our mind because it is pondering our existance. The presence of our own thought is the only concrete reality.

What is a dream and what is reality?

At any rate, Middletown, Connecticut is a reality quite separate from anything I've ever known. It's **Quiet**. There are **woodland animals**. There are **large grassy open spaces**. I never said I liked it.
That's a lie, I love it. I love running to class barefoot and laying on the grass terraces behind Olin library reading Things Fall Apart. I love the squirrel that comes to visit me sometime on the tree outside of my window. I love the little wooden houses the seniors live in with their narrow staircases and whitewashed walls smelling of like freshly burning fireplaces. There are so many places on campus I go that I breathe in and say "this is so Wesleyan".

I resisted temptation to go to the mall with Amanda today because someday sometime I have to do the mountains of work heaped upon me. Amanda gets it (thank god someone i was dying). She is from Palo Alto and she's loud and spunky and excercises compulsively and intimately knows the ice hockey team. cough. She's a fireball of gossip and adventure and a breath of fresh air compared with other people I've met.

I didn't sleep last night and then i went swimming at 9 am. That's fucking dedication.

I really like that everyone I love is an instant phone call away. Despite this fact,I feel like I've been in college for years. Butterfields = Home.

If it clears up im going surfing in Rhode Island tomorrow with the swimming boys. Hurricane waves, woopdedoo!

Love, La
