Let's see, in sixth grade it was about 1966. Beatlemania was in full swing, as was Monkeemania. The top acts (group, male, female) were the Beatles, Elvis, and Nancy Sinatra. My favorite songs (no way to pick one) that year were Cherry, Cherry by Neil Diamond; Cherish by the Association; Hanky Panky by Tommy James and the Shondells; Paperback Writer, Yellow Submarine, and Eleanore Rigby by the Beatles; These Boots Are Made For Walkin' by Nancy Sinatra; I'm A Believer, Last Train To Clarksville, and I'm A Believer by the Monkees; The Sounds of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel; Summer In the City by the Lovin' Spoonful; Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones; Wild Thing by the Troggs; Monday, Monday by the Mama's and the Papa's; Lightnin' Strikes by Lou Christie; Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys; and finally Sunshine Superman by Donovan.
I have no single favorite song from 6th grade or that entire mid 60s time frame. There was a whole lot of great music coming from 1966. This was the time I was becoming aware that girls were really something special and different. This was a time of innocence, awakening, and curiosity. I didn't really understand the lyrics of many of the songs I liked, but the music in this time frame was very good.
