Going from
this to
in PS CS2.
1. I started off with
this screen cap from Almost Famous.
2. The first thing I did was crop it down to 100x100, and duplicate the layer. Set the duplicated layer to screen.
3. Next, I stamped the layer (CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + E).
4. I sharpened the image (Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen Edges), and then played with the Brightness/Contrast (Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast). I ended up with 30 for Brightness and 26 for Contrast. Then, I set the layer to Soft Light.
It now looks like this:
5. I stmaped the layer again, destaurated it (CTRL + ALT + U), and set it to Screen at 100%.
6. The last thing I did was duplicate the base, drag it to the top and set it to Linear Light at 35% opacity, just to bring back some of the color.
My end result looks like this:
