Day 5: Bee-autiful
A Bee Struggling on the Misty Rocks
With Nature’s Leaves for Flight and a Stranger’s Hand for Balance
I take this Creature to a Mossy Inch Amongst the Rocks
From Across the White Rushing Water of the Falls.
A Single Flower and a Ray of Sunlight.
Rest, My Friend. Gain your Strength or Lose your Life.
You are Home.
Travel:
A Bit Later, We travel from the Ship to Old San Juan.
El Morro is a Fort used to protect the riches of Puerto Rico.
In the Field, Hundreds of Kites fill the Skies.
“Innocence.”
And just beyond a wall, the serenity or tranquility of a graveyard;
Monuments of Angels.
“Peace, War… Life… Death; Love, and Innocence.”
My Entire Life.
“What is
all of this?”
Thirsty:
There are many bars in San Juan.
My first drink, a “Holiday.”
Abigail asks for a Blue something, they don’t have it.
A Sex on the Beach? They do.
Rusty plays DJ, girls and boys drinking here and there.
An insect eyed magician in the streets shows us tricks
And I’m draped from a ledge, vine-limbed and drinking
Progressively cheaper and cheaper drink
“Tres Medallos, amigo~” $5.25.
The bartender never stops pouring three and four at a time.
I’m thinking, “Puerto Rico.” Is this it?
On a Ledge:
Veronica brings 4 shots.
The ledge and alley are dead with the weight of turistas.
But now I don’t hesitate and swallow
The tequila that travels like a grenade down my pipes.
Before long, though my mind is clear, my body is in chaos.
I vomit in the restroom of the first bar.
The toilet flushes but vomit won’t go down.
Smart toilet- I think now.
And Abigail waits just outside and Israel does, too.
I am happy and embarrassed, respectively so.
The voices all around:
“…skinny dipping in the ocean…”
“…call a cab…”
I think it unnecessary, the latter, I understand it’s intended for me;
Events unfold, and I choose silence.
The cab takes four of us back.
Thank you for noticing, for your perceptions.
Courtney, the rainbow child, and Brandon of Santa Cruz leave Abigail and I
In my room, she says, “Take off your shoes.”
“No, because then you’ll leave.”
“I’m leaving no matter what.”
I fold, lay in my bunk, and Abby leaves before
I rise to vomit one last time.
