Just when I thought I've heard it all, Carleton goes and suprises me again.
Well, not really, as Carleton is about as hard to get into as passing gas, and I know it's just the student body. but... well, read for yourself.

As to the "last ditch", I did attach a disclaimer to my earlier argument - that was certainly the case when I was looking at my options, but that was oh god 13 years ago now. However, in the field I was looking at, they did have a well regarded program in the workforce at the time. No, I didn't do my research and actually attend Carleton to see for myself, but I talked to people in the workforce, including HR people in the field I was interested in. Of course, the issue becomes once you are saddled with a label, it can be damn near impossible to remove it.
You are being sensitive, yes, but I can certainly empathize where you are coming from, and I did deserve some of the comments you tossed at me - I wasn't being overly tactful with my comments. I'm a jerk what can I say hahahah. I certainly hope the students band together and right the wrong.
According to the Ottawa Citizen this motion was forwarded by Donnie Northrup:
Motion to Drop Shinerama Fundraising Campaign from Orientation Week.
Whereas Orientation week strives to be inclusive as possible;
Whereas all orientees and volunteers should feel like their fundraising efforts will serve the their diverse communities;
And Whereas Cystic fibrosis has been recently revealed to only affect white people, and primarily men.
Information Transfer
Be it resolved that: CUSA discontinue its support of this campaign
Be it further resolved that that the CUSA representatives on the incoming Orientation Supervisory Board work to select a new broad reaching charity for orientation week."
There is the full quote for you. Screams of racial politics - should we stop funding breast cancer research too? Or prostate cancer? Kinda silly really - P.C. gone too far.
