I think it really depends. Maybe it is a choice that people don't really realize they have. A baby accepts whatever it was taught. As they grow older, and the environment stays the same, then the person might just stay the same or react the same way. Unless they experience something different and notice that there is actually something different from what they are used to. Eg. A kid grows up being hit all the time. Maybe the city is like that, that hitting kids is alright. So, the kid thinks hitting is ok. He grows up and hits his kids too. Nobody is stopping this. The cycle goes on and on. Unless he sees otherwise, that hitting is not right, then he won't change because there aren't any outside forces making him change or think. Now if you grow up in an environment which is more enlightened, then YOU know you have a choice. You can follow your parents, yourself, whoever you wish. This is YOU and your life. But a lot of people don't see that. THE CHOICE. And in a way, you are right. It depends on your personality as well, if you're a fighter or a follower. But know that kids are vulnerable at a young age and absorbs a lot of stuff. So the result, it depends.
