I've created an original short story...I still can't believe it.

Whoever stumbled upon my little short story--accidentally, coincidentally or deliberately otherwise--I would appreciate it if I hear any comments at all. This would be my first original short story, without any mention of any anime-listic characteristics.

The Church

She sat quietly on the pew, as all the other people around her were doing. The priest was telling today's sermon in a monotoned voice that usually lulled her to sleep. He was old, with thinning, white hair, and a small, fragile body. Even his robes looked too big for him to wear.

Her eyes roamed around the church, as she usually did whenever she went to a church she had never been in before. She took in the glass panels that depicted the life of Christ, the sunlight pouring through the windows, creating multi-colored, indistinguishable patterns on the floor.

She looked up the ceiling, marveling the majestic architecture, of the gold linings on the wooden arches, and grand paintings of angels and saints.

Fingers touched the chipped and scratched wood of the pew in front of her, feeling the antiquity and seeing the time etched on the seat. She glanced on the gold plating cruelly screwed into the pew, a plate that usually informed of whoever donated for the seat. But this one was unique, because it said, "In the memory of----".

She looked at the statues of the saints, dressed in all their glory, with gold circles behind their heads. She stared at the gilded chairs behind the altar, gazed at the marvelous design. She could distinctly smell the scent of candle smoke mixed with the smell of fresh flowers.

She observed the interior of the church in awe, feeling an odd sort of peace settle in her heart where anger first stirred hours before.

Now she watched not the church, but the bride and groom standing in front of the altar, after the sermon was finished, excitedly waiting to take their vows that would bind them forever to each other. On any other day, on a normal setting, she would've waved as she saw her best friend and fiance waiting for her with smiles on their faces.

But this was no normal setting. Bride and groom; best friend and now ex-fiance--there was no difference.

She felt their happiness, and could feel a habitual smile tugging at her lips. Whatever happened now, she would not be able to wave back when they would smile.

She left before the wedding finished.

As she walked out of the church, she dropped the diamond solitaire ring that served as her engagement ring on the pavement and silently said goodbye to her good memories of them three, just as, inside the church, five words were spoken reverently by the groom, and he once said to her.

Till death do us part.

Her name was printed on the obituary a few days later.

That was my muses playing inside my head for a while. My muses had gone into hiding once again, and I am trying to pull them out.
