Since Obama won the election, I've been paying close attention to who is chosen to be in his cabinet. I work under 3 different government departments:
The Department of Homeland Security
Specifically the Transportation Security Administration
The Department of Transportation
Specifically the Federal Aviation Administration
The Department of Defense
Specifically the Department of the Air Force
Mostly I care about those in charge of Defense and Transportation. A lot of work needs to be done in those areas. Whoever takes these jobs will make all the decisions that will directly affect me over the next 4 or 8 years.
Want to hear something that really annoys me? Believe it or not, often times when people I know find out I'm in the Air Force, all they talk about is how they disagree with how the military does this, or how they do that. They hate how the military recruits, how they treat the soldiers, and all this other crap. Then, they ask me something that really pisses the hell out of me....."Why on earth would you want to join the military?" I almost want to say, gee, i'm so sorry I want to risk my life so you can sit there on your ass and enjoy a life free of terror. Our military is the best on earth because of the way it is run. You learn discipline and respect. Maybe not the same way you would teach it to a kid, but you learn it. I just don't understand how people who claim to support our troops can turn around and question a soldiers reasons for joining the military.
Anyway, on to other things. Today I saw a Boeing commercial on TV, and it made me feel really excited and happy. Happy, because Boeing just settled their strike a couple weeks ago, and excited because work will now continue on the Boeing 787. So much is happening in the aviation world, it's sometimes hard to keep up with it all. Several airports recently opened new runways which will help cut down delays across the country. If you are traveling my plane during the holidays, I strongly suggest you get tickets now. Don't wait.
I'll be home December 19th through January 5th. During that time I'll be in Iowa for Christmas, which will be fun.
