I agree that we should stop making laws to systematically turn young adults into non-entities, but I also worry about our young adults. It seems like our generation really enjoys not taking responsibility for anything and practically opting out of the political process altogether. When they pretty much don't care about their rights at all, they don't notice when adults start taking them away. (I might be just a little cynical about our generation right now because of some stupid things friends of friends have been doing recently.) I think if young people were willing to accept the consequences of the stupid decisions they made, our rights wouldn't get taken away so easily.
I am completely against the death penalty, and I am even more against it for people who are minors at the time the crime was committed. Yes, a 16- or 17-year-old knows that it is wrong to kill, and people who commit these crimes are clearly not nice people, but people also make really stupid decisions as teenagers, and the law prevents them from having legal responsibility for many things, and there should be some lenience (i.e. lock them up for a long time) on crimes that are committed so young.

Are you talking about the must-have-a-permit-for-six-months law?

It's maybe three years old, I fell under it because I didn't get my license until I was 18 but none of my age-mates who learned to drive at 16 like normal people did.

Wasn't there also a clause restricting how many non-family members could be in the car of a 16 year old driver. I think my brother got his license under the new law.
