Feel for it, don't fight for it

We can not desperately grasp for what we want.  I've been learning this lesson from various places.  Deepak Chopra discusses the concept.  He teaches to meditate on the things we desire. However, you can not become attached to these things. You must be aware of them and put positive energy towards it, but you can not cling to it.  I've also recently seen, but unfortunately not read yet, The Golden Compass. When asking her question, the young girl is advised not to grasp at her question, but hold it ever so lightly in her mind.  And isn't it true that often times good things happen to us when we least expect it. Deep in our heart there are things we desire, but it is when we are happily distracted and looking the other way, that we achieve these things.

Today I was working in the restaurant, which was pretty much dead. One of the guys that hangs around a lot was trying to think of the commonly used adjective that was actually a whales penis. I knew I knew it! And I desperately wanted to prove it. I kept telling myself, I know I know this, what is it, what is it, as I tried to picture the word. No luck. Then I stopped and reflected on the fact that, I know the information is somewhere in my brain, it's somewhere there. I just have to let it float to the surface. I put faith in this concept for a moment and stopped trying to think of the word. I started browsing the menu, DORK! It came to me just like that. :)
