I know I'm not supposed to....

I know I'm not supposed to rub it in your faces that I am living in the tropics while you are suffering a Michigan (or Connecticut) winter. But when I have just spent a weekend relaxing on a Caribbean beach it's kind of hard not to.

The visit to Puerto Viejo was super fun. I went with 5 other girls on my program: Currie, Cora, Amanda, Erin and Clare. We stayed at this really nice hotel where we had a kitchen and direct access to a beach (although not a good swimming beach). We arrived in Pt. Viejo and our hotel late on Friday night and just went to bed because we had plans to wake up early.

On Saturday morning we were up by 7:30am, had some beans and rice and plantains for breakfast and then rented bikes for the day. We biked down to Punta Uva which is a little cove with beautiful white sand beaches with excellent swimming a bit further south. It took about 30 minutes to bike there and then we spent some time in the water, walking on the beach, tanning, sitting under the palm trees, trying to see the coral reefs, etc. Cora and I tried to swim out to the coral reef, about 30 ft from the shore but kept laughing so hard and floating backwards that we never made it. I also forgot to re-apply my sunscreen and got pretty burned. Since it isn't peeling and I am using lots of aloe I am hoping that it will fade to a nice dark tan.

In the late afternoon (around 4pm) we biked back to our hotel, showered and then walked into the center of Pt. Viejo (about a 15 minute walk). We stopped along the way to look at the little stands selling jewelery, sarongs, etc. A couple of the girls bought sarongs and I bought some jewelery. Then Cora and I went out to dinner (she wanted some good seafood) and the other girls cooked back at the hotel.

Saturday night we went out. First we went to a little bar/restaurant where I had a delicious Pina Colada and we listened to some live reggae. It was really nice. Then we headed to a discoteca on the beach where we hung out a bit on the beach, danced a bit, met some hot Australian men... etc. Then we went home and slept.

Sunday Cora and I had amazing fallafel and crepes for breakfast, bought me some much needed sunscreen and caught an 11am bus back to San Jose. We were back in San Jose after a calm 4.5 hr bus ride and home by 4pm. Which gave me enough time to do some homework and fall asleep early.

All in all the weekend was really amazing. I will post pictures soon once I create a picture account somewhere....
