Sigh.
In 2011, I only read 52 books.
Fifty Two!
*hangs head in shame*
My yearly goal is one hundred. I normally hit that mark or come darn close to it. Mind you, this is a mix of chapter books, early readers, MG, YA and adult. Mostly MG and adult, though.
I also have to admit, I've never thought 100 books was enough. As a writer I should read more. A lot more.
Fifty Two . . . it's just unacceptable!
I did read some pretty cool books though. Such as The Fantastic Secret of Owen Jester by Barbara O'Connor. And the entire Hunger Games series within a months time during camping season (a young camper friend of mine recommended the first one and I was hooked). I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore . . . Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen . . . the Maze Runner by James Daschner . . . Touch Blue by Cindy Lord and Pearl by Jo Knowles . . . I could go on and on and on.
There's so many books I want to, no, neeeeed to read. I just have to make more time this year.
No excuses.
No if's . . . and's . . . or but's about it.
So far in 2012 I've read Marty McGuire, by Kate Messner. Loved it!
With my middle school class, I'm reading Gone by Michael Grant. I've used his plot to teach summarization and I'm presently working with the class to create a list of characters; brainstorming one to three descriptive words for each. They're always begging for more of this story.
At home I'm almost finished reading Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce. The humor is wonderfully done.
And next on the list is What Jamie Saw by Carolyn Coman, which was recommended by a teacher friend. I can't wait to start it.
Hopefully, I'll stay on this track. You can all make me accountable by quizzing me from time to time on what I'm reading!
