[ Tessa has been looking forward to this event: It's her first ball, and while she realises that many things are going to be very different from a ball in her own time, it is still a ball. She's bought a new dress only for this, a little flashier and more modern than she is used to, but still close enough to her usual attire to make her feel comfortable wearing it.

She's arrived together with Tim, but she'll be walking around throughout the evening, admiring dresses (and not blushing at the shorter or more revealing ones, no) and the splendour of the location. ]

[Tim is going to sort of hover near Tessa for a while. He's feeling very out of his element dressed in this. He started out with his hair slicked back but it's quickly becoming more Tim looking because of his habit of reaching up and running his fingers through it. He'll feel better once he gets a beer. He puts his hand on the small of Tessa's back.]

Let's got check out the bar first.

Of course. [ She smiles up at him, rather more comfortable in her clothes than he is in his. Though he does look very handsome, in her view. ]

Thank you for coming here with me. [ And for dressing up. ]

[dillonrockstar]

You're welcome. Figure, m'doin' all right. I got to come to party with a hot chick.

[He winks at her and guides her through the crowd to the bar.]

You wanna dance after we get somethin' to drink?

[He's not entirely sure he knows how to dance 100% sober...not that he's a hundred percent sober. He had a couple of beers while getting ready. It was pre-gaming.]

I think you look very handsome. [ Brushing a hand over the lapel of his tux very briefly before snatching her fingers away again. ]

I'm not certain whether I know how to dance, if it has changed in the last century, but I would like to try. [ That's why she wanted to go so badly; to dance. And because it's something the heroines in her books do, going to balls, and she knows she's not one of them and never will be, but it's something she's imagined, that she's wanted to experience. ]

[Her compliment gets a sort of crooked grin.] Thanks. M'not sure I know how to do the sorta dancin' they do here but I can teach you to two-step pretty easy.

Then you should. I'd be happy to learn. [ She always is, but tonight, especially, learning a dance holds a special appeal. ]

But first a drink, am I right? [ A little, almost cheeky grin. ]

[dillonrockstar]

[He grins a bit sheepishly.] Dance better on a drink or two. [He manages to get them both to the bar and orders a beer.] You want somethin'?

Perhaps a glass of light wine? [ Still by his side, smiling up at him. She's very happy to be here, and not on her own but with someone she likes and who will even teach her a dance. It's not quite like in one of the books and she doesn't expect Tim to be her hero, but it's still nice. ]

[dillonrockstar]

[That's a good thing since he's not really great at being a hero. He orders a glass of white wine and hands it over to her. It's a lot better quality then the kind he brought on their golf outting.] Y'know I never wore a tux before this.

[Of course he IS still wearing his scuffed cowboy boots. There are some things that he won't sacrifice even for pretty girls.]

Did you not? [ Pausing a moment to consider, and also to take a sip of the wine. ] Is it as bad as you feared, to wear one?

[dillonrockstar]

[Tim ponders that, tugging at the bow tie a little and then raking his hand through his hair. It's only about half slicked back now.] Nah. 'Long as I don't got to do it very often.

I would not ask that of you. Though I do think it suits you quite well, truly.

[dillonrockstar]

You sayin' I look hot? [There's an eyebrow waggle in there.[

[ Thinking on that for a moment, before smiling. ] I suspect that is the correct term for it.

[dillonrockstar]

[That makes him chuckle.] Doesn't count if you don't say it. [He just wants to hear her say hot in the modern context.]
