When; Sunday afternoon Rating; PG for character death Characters; Reeve Tuesti (urbandev); Jadis, the White witch (queenoftraitors); maybe some more after? We'll see. Summary; The last falls. Log; ( And another one bites the dust? )
All the others, Jadis had caught out or lured into the open. Perhaps she was gaining confidence, or perhaps she saw no other way to proceed on this, her final execution.
The first step, of course, was to persuade her target to open the door, as she much preferred to remain hidden and unknown, for now. So the witch stood on the other side of it, casting the tiniest bit of magic, and a sheen of ice began to creep beneath the door and slowly cover the floor.
Reeve rose from an almost trance-like state when he realized his fingers had started shaking. He seemed to wake as he realized and stopped, laying the tools down and setting the half completed chassis on a shelf above his head. Cold, he deduced, not fatigue or, he dared to think it, age.
Kuro, recognizing the sign that his owner was finished, at least temporarily, leaped up onto the counter, purring as he rubbed under Reeve's chin.
"You're right, it is chilly," he murmured to the cat, scooping it into his arms as he stood and walked to the main room. He checked all the windows and then waved his hand over the radiator, frowning faintly. "You stay here," he told both cats. "I'll check the furnace." Depositing Kuro on a couch, he moved towards the door, opening it absently.
Outside the door, everything was covered in ice. The floor and walls glistened like glass, reflecting light into distorted shapes.
When Reeve stepped through the door, Jadis raised her dagger and swung, bringing the pommel into the back of his head with a crack. Unlikely to kill, but she had to be sure of incapacitating him, so that when her blade was buried in his flesh, the blow would be true. Crude, yes, but one had to adapt to one's circumstances.
Reeve stopped in awe at the spectacle of so much ice, so distracted that he entirely missed the woman standing beside him. The swing hit true, the hilt connecting exactly where his neck dipped in between the tendons. He crumpled in the doorway.
