Today I learned...

That your wife will not thank you if - after watching 'Don't Blink', a horror movie where people disappear when you're not looking at them - you hide whilst they are upstairs. Not thank you in the slightest.

She's more or less forgiven me by this point. (I may still have making up to do.)

Don't Blink was also the third horror movie in a row that we've watched today, which probably doesn't help. The first was Black Mirror: White Christmas, which is a feature length episode of a British anthology series about dystopian futures, ranging from the very near future to somewhat more advanced. In all cases, it isn't that man am play god, it's more that human nature inevitably causes the situation (whichever situation happens to be focussed on) to become fucked up. As a result it tends to be rather bleak and depressing, but occasionally that's the kind of thing we like to watch, and it's very well done. This episode in particular was fairly hard-hitting, as it featured three different stories in the same setting, taking different aspects of technology. The middle one was the one that stuck with me the most, for all that it was the shortest.

The second thing was The Taking of Deborah Logan, a found footage movie that focusses on a phd student who's got funding for a study on a patient with Alzhiemers. Things naturally go wrong. It's fairly well done, and avoids a lot of the usual tropes of the particular subgenre of horror movie that it falls into, even if the twist feels a bit tacked on.

Don't Blink was also fairly effective, even if it is not the first movie I've seen that has this particular premise. There are some character twists in particular that I think are well done.

All in all, not a bad day's viewing. Even if I'm still in the dog house for my little stunt. :)
