Just a thought

Having the privilege of not caring about the poor, writing off the poor, and stating that you don't have to care about the poor is a sign that the system is corrupt- not just because of the lack of compassion it displays, but because it indicates an underlying assumption that the poor are poor because they somehow deserve it and the security that it will never happen to you. If you can be absolutely certain that neither you nor any of your allies are at any risk of suffering the same want of basic needs and safety that the underprivileged around you face every day, it is an indication that the system is rigged in your favor. The risk of misfortune is unevenly distributed and opportunity is available only to the few, and moreover, the poor have no reasonable means of redress or access to power. If you can have the certainty that the poor live in a world that has no overlap with yours, it is an indication that your society has a divide that you are unwilling to repair and likely to not even see as a problem.

A lack of compassion is a love of corruption.
