Have some links:

sihaya09 is having a sale to clear out some older items.

Check out help_pakistan to participate in auctions to help victims of the flooding. I haven't made brownies in a while. Any interest in a brownie auction? The weather is cool enough to ship perishables and I have a lot of styrofoam boxes.

Ah, the escalators. Back in 1997 or 1998 when the Promise Keepers rallied in DC my roommate and I made the mistake of going from campus (GW) to Maryland for the day. It was fine getting there. Going back- the Metro was full of confused, rude Promise Keepers who didn't understand: not block the escalators, to step aside to let people OFF trains arriving in stations, different sides of the station have trains going different directions (oh noes!), and many more fun facts. Also, I think COLLEGE WOMEN were just plain scary to them.

The whole Glen Beck event creeps me out- such appropriation of something that isn't his to use being manipulated in a very hate-filled way. And that 'guide' is just plain sad (although it didn't actually come from Glen Beck, but from a Maine Tea Party group- not much better).

I remember that Promise Creepers rally AND what it did to DC metro.

I was in DC for a soccer game with a coworker who was from England. The Promise Creepers were wearing t-shirts that read "Stand in the Gap." and my coworker, irritated by their general metro cluelessness, was muttering about how he really, really wished they would.

I had forgotten about their matching shirts. It made them somehow more threatening- like a giant misogynistic clone army... who still couldn't figure out how to use mass transit.

Freaking awesome! These folks will be avoiding my neighborhood! Lucky me.

Oh come on, I'm sure you could have come up with some creative way to make them feel welcome.

That 'watch out for the dark (people)' guide makes me wish like fire that I lived in DC so I could organize groups of Obviously Lefty Types in Tshirts (with lefty slogans about peace, ect) to go ride around the Metro on the 'safe' lines.

Perhaps invite groups of residents of the no go zones in the guide to join the OLT's in riding the Metro in the alleged 'safe zones'.

For added fun, given the day in question, instead of chanting or waving signs, make sure everyone has the words to 'We Shall Overcome' printed out to share. And strongly suggest that rather than interact with the rally goers, just sing. We Shall Overcome, This Land Is Your Land, Oh Freedom, We Shall Not Be Moved.

My personal favorite was that the majority of their 'safety' section was talking about how a lot of the folks in DC are recent immigrants from African countries, especially the cab drivers. Right, there's no racist subtext there.
