Dorkitude

Yesterday I had to go drop off some forms in one of the offices on the other side of campus. When I went to drop off those forms, they gave me another form to fill out (welcome to the government). The problem was that the new form needed my office phone number, and I had no idea what it was. I hadn't updated the one in my address book when I moved offices. I didn't have any of my coworker's numbers written down to be able to call them to ask. I wasn't going to walk back to my office to look it up.

So I looked through my address book to see who might have my office number and be able to look it up for me.

I called my mechanic. I ♥ my mechanic. He laughed at me but gave me the number, and I was able to fill out my form.

I think I'll have to drop off some brownies there for the holidays, in thanks.

Last night I had dinner with my friend Denise, where we talked for a long time. This included grown-up topics like house-buying and a lot of talk about boys. I ran into a casual friend while we were at the pub, someone I know well enough to hug in greeting and steal his hat for a moment. Explaining to Denise who he was, later, I shared a friend's observation on him that is one my favorite recently observations on a guy.

My friend had said of the gentleman in question that he's the sort of guy that would really like to be a bit of a lothario but was hampered by the fact that he's actually a decent guy. He would totally be taking advantage of women and seducing them left and right if there was a way he could do it that was still totally respectful, caring, and responsible and treated them like individuals that he was honored to know and whose boundaries he would treat with consideration and respect. When the person making the original observation remarked that he was hampered in his rogue aspirations by the fact that he genuinely likes women, one of the other women present was confused and asked why that was a contradiction. We pointed out that generally speaking, the guys who are the seductive rogues don't actually like women- they like what they can get from women, and actually resent that women are in control of it in the first place. So, you know, I hug the decent guys and I'm glad to see them.
