Black-only schools in Toronto = bad idea.
REALLY.
When you think about it, that goes against everything that black people have fought for. WHY would blacks turn around and fight to be segregated AGAIN? This is NOT 1960. We live in the 21st century... with MODERN ideas. We already know that segregation is a dumb idea.
There's always the arugument "If white people did the same thing, they would be called racist." The problem with that statement: There are already a bunch of "white" schools set up all over Canada anyway. They're just not labelled that. However, other ethnicities attend them because they happen to live in a more Caucasian-populated are. They don't turn down other ethnic groups from educating themselves because Canada is a Eurocentric-based society and it's in the curriculum to learn Euro-Canadian history.
Alright, so maybe it's good because black kids can learn about their history and culture in school. Personally, I would have loved that opportunity because my 'rents aren't big on the whole sharing of Jamaican roots thing. However, I don't think that only black people are interested in black history. Caucasian, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Native Americans might want to learn about it too. Know what that means? It means we should be teaching that stuff in school anyway. Black Canadians are still Canadians too. The same goes for all other types of Canadians. All of our histories are entwined in each other. That's why it's Canadian history, because Canada has so many stories to tell. That's what makes us unique from other countries.
What do you think?
