Well, I haven't spammed you all with video game babble for a while, and we just can't have that. So first there is first impressions of the Gakuen Heaven game, and then there's more general discussion with Mari about the Tales series, specifically the PS2 remake of Tales of Destiny.

First Impressions

So far, I have three main impressions of Gakuen Heaven.

One: I am reminded very much of the opening of CLAMP Campus Detectives and Campus Cops Duklyon. All the prestigious facilities and excellent academic and sports programmes described in loving detail… Bell Liberty is like CLAMP Campus, only it’s all-boys, a high school only, and does not appear to have a massive shopping complex! So really it’s a downgrade, more exclusive version of CLAMP Campus.

On an island.

Two: You do not apply for Bell Liberty. They apply for you. By which I mean they send you an-- can you really call it an acceptance letter if there’s no application to accept? -- a letter inviting you to enrol without any prior input on your part. On special paper, so you know it’s not faked. (Platinum paper. Do you think that was meant as a description of the colour? Because I’m sure a letter sent on platinum, with a platinum envelope, would be very... uh... heavy.)

But anyway. Harry Potter, much?

Three: I am cursed. Actually playing Gakuen Heaven, even just the beginning, has made me fall even deeper in love with Niwa/Kaoru than I was before. Their interaction reminds me so much of another couple, but I can’t think who. Either way, they’re just so CUTE. I mean, you’ve got Kaoru being all “It’s Niwa’s fault, blah blah” with this cold ice queen glare, but then Niwa is all like D: Kaoru-chaaaan, you’re so mean to me! And Kaoru gets this little SMIRK at various points in the conversation and he’s totally just as fond of Niwa as Niwa is of him, I swear. Then when Niwa apologises, Kaoru is like “don’t apologise to ME, apologise to him!” (him = Keita). Plus there’s this bit where Kaoru stomps on Niwa’s foot when Niwa starts to say something he’s not supposed to say in front of Keita. Eeeeeeeeeee! <3

... I’m sure you can’t tell at ALL how fond of this pairing I am. Heh. ^^;

But I’m cursed because this is one of those BL games where you can only set up the main character. D:

So, in conclusion: Bell Liberty is like what you get when you mix CLAMP Campus with Hogwarts with really really-- no, wait, CLAMP Campus already has the gay going. Also, Niwa/Kaoru OT-FUCKING-P. Whyyyy? Why can’t I set them up?

And, onto the Tales of discussion...

Me: Apparently there's going to be a remake of destiny for PSII. says wikipedia. with a pretty screenshot of battle.
Mari: oh really? I`m interested but not
Mari: just because the old Tales has that old Tales thing
Me: I'm interested if only because ps2 remake may mean full voicing.
Mari: Yes I know
Mari: I bet I`ll lose to the allure of Midorikawa-san
Me: I would willingly lay money on that bet, yeah. *giggle*
Me: ... supposed to come out later this year.
Mari: oh really I may be able to get it when I go then
Me: *goes in search of the namco site* Ahah. Oh hey, there's another tales coming out sometime too.

http://www.bandainamcogames.co.jp/
Me: ... ew, it's a mobile game.
Me: *ignores*
Me: ... this site is so badly designed compared to squeenix...
Me: AHAH
Me: http://namco-ch.net/talesofdestiny_ps2/index.php
Me: whoa, big change to the graphics. It looks more like symphonia than phantasia.
Me: ... it's kind of different to Symphonia too though.
Mari: I know I had trouble finding the site
Me: I ended up just searching for it.
Mari: It`s very ToD2
Mari: I think they tried to fit it in with ToD2
Me: oh, probably
Me: that'd make sense
Mari: because the later games (ToS and ToA) are different because they`re made after it
Me: less 3D
Mari: and they have a more different map system
Mari: yeah
Me: it's like 2D characters on 3D backgrounds
Me: but I quite like it
Mari: but ToL and ToD2 are more done with the 3Dical people
Mari: I`m not sure about ToR
Me: what are we going to do when they have a To... with the same letter as one already? it'll be so confusing.
Mari: I think. I think they`ll just have to think very very hard not to
Mari: they have 26 Letters to choose from, they`ll deal
Me: *giggle* they can have 26 games and then they're screwed.
Mari: ...go us
Me: though I'd be interested to see what they come up with for ToX.
Mari: Tales of Xenophobia
Mari: clearly
Me: *die*
Me: somehow that doesn't sound as nice as all the other ones. *g*
Mari: ...somehow, no
Mari: but it fits and it works
Me: there could be an evil government this time maybe.
Mari: ...like that`s new
Mari: an evil church most probably
Me: usually it's an evil church, an evil king--
Me: yeah.
Me: but I mean
Me: for xenophobia
Me: it should be an evil government
Me: it'd make a change. XD
Me: actually, it's more often an evil corporation than an evil king.
Me: hm, they're rewriting people's lines in the game [Tales of Destiny PS2 remake]. That's interesting.
Me: *I* think if they're putting in new events and stuff they should add something to show that Leon didn't die.

... Actually I don't know if I really think that. It'd be a little bit of a sellout. But on the other hand: LEON. There should be a way to not kill him, dammit. >(
Mari: Nah it is a little necessary to kill him I think
Mari: because then my efforts of searching out the beaches would be in vain
Mari: and it would be awful to think it would`ve been possible
Me: and obviously that is all that counts. *amused*
Mari: if only I had the PS2 ver
Mari: well really it would muck the story line of ToD2 a bit so no
Mari: because it quite clearly joins on from ToD1
Me: huh okay. I knew they joined directly, I didn't know Leon's death/not death would affect it that much. Assuming it was just something in the ending that is like, Leon in a hospital or something and the others don't know. ... *gives up thinking*
Mari: they have a bit in which they go to VISIT all of the swordians and thus have to make a point of not going to Leon for obvious reasons
Mari: because well it hasn`t been all too long after ToD1
Mari: and so many people are alive and know about what happened
Me: ... wah. rub it in why don't you, namco. D:

Anyway. Right now I'm in complete and utter holiday mode, by which I mean before I was in the focussed writing mode and then I went to the coast. *lounges* I have one more drabble to write before I upload to the writing blog. Then... I have some choices about what to work on after that. *puts the decision aside for the time being*

Can't believe parents are leaving tomorrow for Fiji. Huh. Uni marks come out monday.
