When the Levees Broke

Dec 07, 2007 14:35

As I mentioned yesterday, I watched all four hours of Spike Lee's documentary When the Levees Broke. Though Hurricane Katrina is at the center of the story, it's really a film about New Orleans and how that city fits in to the rest of the United States. And that being said, it's a film about the United States that I don't think the rest of the ( Read more... )

hello hello from good ol' europe!

this is annette, the girl from germany who was among the lucky ones enjoying your great hospitality some time ago in paris. when moving to japan in 2006 i got myself a blog as well (_your_ blog had inspired me) but soon realised that without my friends being in this community as well it wouldn't be as much fun as emailing them one by one. so for exactly one year i haven't been posting anything here but i'm still keeping my account just to be able to sneak a peek at your blog from time to time because it's just too interesting to let go!
it's good to know that there's people like you who spread word on things that need to be changed not only in the U.S. but everywhere in this world.

this is only linked to katrina to a certain extend but i thought you might be interested in it anyway:
have you ever heard of the "story of stuff"?
it's annie leonard, "an expert in international sustainability and environmental health issues" [according to her website], who had been researching about where "stuff" actually comes from and how the global production process affects the world most terribly.
i think we can all learn from this and spread word...

apart from that and since you will soon be living in europe anyway you're most welcome to visit me in beautiful southern germany! :)
have a great year 2008,
anée

Hi Annette! it's so lovely to hear from you, and wow, thanks for such a flattering comment. :) I've never heard about "The Story of Stuff," but I will definitely check it out.

Hey, we'll be neighbors soon, how cool! I want to spend a lot more time in Germany (considering I've spent a total of five days there, that shouldn't be so hard) and would love to visit you. I can't believe you've already gone to Japan and returned; you must have some amazing stories.

Thanks for reading!!

flattering? nah... i think you're cool and that's only the truth...

it's funny that both of us will end up in neighboring countries again when having been as far from each other as the u.s. and japan - hooray for internationality!
you're right: beat your own germany-record and visit me for a week or so! ;)

and japan - well, i'd have loved to stay there even longer and i'm strongly considering to go back after obtaining my degree in germany...oh, the ever-lasting wanderlust...

see you in europe and
thank you for letting me read!!
