I'm going to Bosnia this August!
I don't know any specifics at all (when I'll leave, how I'll get there, when I'll come back, if I can get the time off work and still have a job), but I know one thing - there's a
Hospitality Club meeting on August 6, organized by my friend Lada, to take place in Sarajevo, and Manning and I will be there then.
I'm so excited. I haven't had any big travel plans (well, the US trip doesn't count) for such a long time, and where I'm going is an area of the world that I have never seen. Man, I want to go to the beaches in Montenegro and explore the cities. I want to see Crotia, maybe, and perhaps travel up to Romania while I'm in that part of Europe. Mostly, I want to meet the people and stay up late and eat the food and dance and live. I have met a few Serbians in Paris through HC and have standing offers of accommodation throughout the region.
Lada's boyfriend (Alexis) just bought a van, and he's planning to drive to Sarajevo... and invited Manning and I to join him on the trip, to help split the cost of gas. How great does that sound? Taking a 2-day road trip across Europe? We could bring our tent, or just sleep out under the stars, sit in roadside cafes in Italy along the way.
The best part of having travel plans (as tentative as they are) is that there's now a better reason to work all summer long. I'm going to be pretty busy with work during the month of July but it'll all be worth it. I really have no idea how my boss will react to "hey, I'm taking time off during one of the busiest times of tourist season," but I guess I'll find out!
