Enterprise Rent-A-Car, you suck.

So, last Thursday (1/10/2008), I flew a friend to Burlington, VT, for some medical treatment. We landed at around 11:20, rented a car, and headed to the hospital. We returned the car at about 2:00 and flew home. It was a great day for it ( Read more... )

Last time I had to rent a car from Enterprise (which was supposedly "covered by insurance" -- so why exactly was I paying $25/day?) they ended up billing me for a day more than I used because they didn't bother logging it back into their computer until the next day despite the fact that I returned it on time the previous day exactly to avoid that. (Not sure, though if that was Enterprise's fault or my scammy auto-body shop's fault. -- short version is that I won't be using either in the future if I can avoid it... unfortunately with a 40 mile commute that isn't on public transit lines, I can't always avoid it.

best of luck sorting the whole mess!

Remember, it's the vendor's obligation to prove to the credit card company that they've charged you correctly. Wait a few days and make sure that Enterprise didn't just allocate a lot of cash from your card as a precaution (gas stations sometimes do this---they overcharge and then revise the cost back down when the pump determines how much you've pumped). Then, if the charge is still there, call Visa/MC/Discover/Amex/DC/JCB/Blockbuster/Pasadena Public Library/whoever issued your card and contest the charges.

Good luck! I've had some bad experiences with Enterprise, too. Since they're the only ones who will rent to under-25s without charging extra fees and my 2+ years of having no car out here were pre-25, I had to rent from them a fair number of times. Mostly, they promised me compact cars when I made reservations than "ran out" of compacts and gave me SUVs and grandma-boats as "free upgrades", forcing me to spend lots of extra money on gas. Then there was the 1" scratch they found on the door of a returned car, called my fault, and charged me over $300 so they could professionally repaint the entire door. Yarghhh...

Ugh. I am not impressed. They approved a partial refund today, and I asked where they came up with the new number, and nobody could help me. We'll see in round x+1.

I love "grandma-boats".

Good luck! Their rates are generally lower than the others', and I tend to wonder if it's just because they're skimping on logistics and customer service. If you end up in a rut with them, try to Better Business Bureau. On a totally unrelated dispute with my electric company I had to cc a letter to the BBB (after 2 weren't answered) and then - lo and behold - got an instant response to my inquiry.
