Remodeling brings up all sorts of questions ...

Like, how much money is it ok to spend on 'equipment' for trash and recycling? And how much do I want sitting out vs. hidden away in shelving and how much do I wanna pay to hide it?

We used to have a couple of really cheap plastic bins from IKEA -- one for pop cans and one for everything else, with paper and cardboard spilling over the top. Ugly but then so was the rest of the kitchen.   --->

<--- Target's 3-bin trash can is kinda cool. Can't quite imagine cleaning the dang thing, though.

The IKEA bins were a few bucks each; this shiny toy is $89.

And the shiny toy doesn't even help with the composting that we vaguely feel we should be doing.

Just for the record, I could get a shiny toy called a compost keeper for those nasty food scraps, for a mere $59. -->

And then there's the issue of 'matching'. Wandering around a Home Outlet sorta store we spied a hammered copper garbage can. Like idiots we did not buy it right away and it was gone when we went back.

We'll never find it again, alas. I even searched a site called
"TrashCanDepot.com" and didn't find anything like it. I looked at Trash Cans Unlimited and found a hammered copper can with sunburst top for $633.

Which I think is more than the hammered copper sink we got. Which was too much, really. But we loved it. --->

Wait till you see the pic with the walls painted ...

My mom kept her garbage in a little plastic bin under the sink, and her composting in empty paper milk cartons with the top cut off. Is that so out of style?
