So, I finally did it. I filled out my FAFSA, I did all the testing, I completed all the paperwork, I decimated all of the red tape, and I'm now a full-time student.
So, the particulars...
Today, I finally did my entrance exam testing since it's been 12 years since I attended a school of any sort, and they don't trust my judgment to choose classes at the appropriate level. I was terrified, honestly. Those bubble sheets are intimidating! Okay, I'm a dirty liar. I was worried about the math exams primarily, as I'm re-entering college as a declared biology major, and I need to be at a certain level to take the math, biology, and chemistry classes needed for my degree.
25 questions in 25 minutes to test into Advanced Algebra. I scored a 48 out of 55. I'm totally amazed that I was able to re-learn everything in two weeks of review that I needed to pass, especially since I was fully convinced I'd bombed the test before I got the scores back. I haven't done math at that level in about 14 years. So, I'm pretty happy with myself :)
As far as the English exams, I didn't study or prepare at all other than to glance over a practice test for about 10 minutes a few weeks ago. As it turns out, I didn't need to. Out of two different exams and a total of 50 or so questions, I only missed one. I did so well I've been admitted into the honors college/track. (Don't judge my blog post, it'll just make you crazy. Just trust me, I *can* write well when I want to :P) Pretty exciting! The really great thing about the honors program is that for every three honors credits per semester, they pay $325. That essentially makes any class I take as an honors course completely free. Score! So, I'm in honors English composition to start.
Here's the basic rundown for the semester:
Biology: General Biology (Majors) I
Mathematics: Advanced College Algebra
English: Honors English Composition
Philosophy: Medical and Bio Ethics (required for degree program)
Spanish: Elementary Spanish I
Only English and Biology are on campus, the rest are internet-based. 18 credit hours!
Additionally, I'm a single mother with two children. None of this is going to cost me a dime, it's all being funded by grant money. It'll keep me insanely busy, but busy is good for my brain.
There's stuff other than school to note, but not right now.
