So there's been a lot of adventure these past few weeks. It's just incredible how you never realize how little there is to do in the town you live until people come to visit. Seriously, I really like Mathieu's aunt and her friend, however, it is very hard to have people you hardly know in your house, while pretending a relationship doesn't exist when it's fairly obvious to all but those without a majority of their senses intact.
So it's been a long couple of weeks, but we've worked through it. Mathieu and I have talked about a lot, and have really known what all we can go through. I have to say though, I am comparatively pretty stressed out as to when his mother came. Of course, we could pretty much do whatever we wanted.
Another thing is that it takes very little to shock his aunt. At least, in my opinion it takes a comparatively little. My mother would just say that something was horrible, but his aunt, gets all bothered. So that was just funny, no two ways about it.
If you notice there's a message from me, it's because a couple of days ago I just got a little stir crazy with the whole having to behave with Mathieu and not being able to just speak in English casually in my own house without someone questioning what I say, then having to make a sad attempt to translate it.
So yeah, very much an adventure.
Speaking of more fun things, I went over to see
hannahgrace26's place. It's palatial. I offered to buy it, but I get the feeling they were expecting slightly more than what I was offering...:-) It's amazing, and I would give any and all of my appendages to have it. Two balconies, huge back yard, pool, etc. Just yeah, incredible.
I also got to see
anna_mathe and
jaytee3 and Sue, whom I have not seen in a considerable length of time. It makes me sad that with my schedule I don't get to see friends nearly as much as I would like to see them. So as you can understand, things are depressing. But with how things are now it was great to see them.
It was sad to leave them and I really wish I could have stayed longer, but crepes awaited. There are few things that can really beat crepes. Part of that may have something to do with the fact that I have never had crepes without healthy doses of chocolate. I also took some of the almonds that I had from earlier, ground them up, and put them inside. I couldn't really taste them, but they gave a nice crunch factor to the crepes.
Earlier that day we went down and around the German Village, and I introduced them to Pop Rocks. It was kinda funny watching Sylvie eat them (Sylvie being the friend that came with his aunt.)
Overall, I have had a good time with them, and we had a lot of fun. I think the only real stumbling block has just been the difference in cultures and languages. They don't understand how I can down that much Mountain Dew, or eat that much candy in one sitting. For me, it's how I have always lived. I guess the reason why I feel I get along with Sylvie better than Marite, mathieu's aunt, is that Sylvie is willing to try things, while Marite knows what she likes and refuses to deviate from it.
There is one thing that *annoys* me to no end, although it has gotten better. French people apparently can be satisfied with just some salad or tomatoes and bread for dinner. Also, the portions are so much smaller than in the US. No, seriously. It's ridiculous. Maybe it's just the way I was raised, but it's kinda a meat and potatoes thing for me. I need my starch, I need my animal flesh, and I need my pop. That's a balanced dinner for me, ya know.
But as for today, it's a 10 hour shift, most likely won't get back till, something like 11. Yeah, lucky me. So I keep going. I bought chipotle today. I had the chips and salsa verde for lunch, and am saving the tacos for dinner. So damn good. All right, this is it for me. I need to watch what's going on. It is horribly distracting talking about myself. I could really go on for hours! ;-)
Talk Later!
