FIRST DAY!

Jul 19, 2006 16:26

Hey All,

Sorry its been awhile since Ive jumped on and posted, Havent had any internet access until now, Currently in The Concord Hospital Medical Library, Apparently we get out own Computer room with internet access but keys are in the process of being cut?! Grr, Ive got 101 emails I want to send to everyone!

Well, Today is the big first day, Orientation...Up at 6.45am (Missed the shower rush because I showered the night before), Met our Clinical teacher at 8am (Very sweet lady who is currently pregnant and due in 10 weeks so we will be losing her as our teacher for the last 3 weeks!) Had a bit of a chat then met all the hospital executives including the Director of Nursing (very lovely lady who offered to be our surrogate Mum - He he, Love you more Mum, Dont worry)! They even threw a morning tea for us with muffins and juice etc (But ofcourse I was strong and said no to all the sweet treats...HONEST)!

Headed to the classroom and got all the Semesters work, Lots of it...Sigh, And assignments starting NOW! Lunch for an hour so we headed back to accommodation plus it started to rain and we were all in TShirts because it was nice in the morning (The weather here seems to be so up n down?! but cant complain, Tassie is worse!) Then had Manual Handling workshop (lifting people without injury etc), was us Tassies and a few other hospital new employees etc. And now, Here I am :o)

Really liking being up here so far, Getting along REALLY well with all the other Tassie students, we sat around the communal lounge last nite and made out our itinerery for the next 13 weeks including Luna Park, Blue Mountains horse riding, Hunter Valley Wine Tour (which we found out today we planned the day before a big assessment due so we will need to reshuffle dates, He he), Bondi Beach, Palm Beach (to see Summer Bay, He he) etc etc, Its going to be fun fun fun...And yes, Some study thrown in too Mum :o)

This week consists of Thursday - more orientation, theory, CPR, hospital tour and introduction to our wards, Friday - first day on ward (7am til 3.30pm) but a pretty basic day getting ourselves familiar with protocols and where things are etc. Then Friday night we are hitting ChinaTown for tea because it is one of the girls, Emma's, 23rd birthday on the Thursday. Saturday we are meeting with the other group of Tassie students that are placed at the Prince Alfred Hospital in the city and going to The Rocks Market, The Pancake Parlour for lunch (He he, Careof Mums recommendation) and a look around Darling Harbour and The Opera House, Sunday I think we have a look around Olympic Park planned (its only 30mins walk from hospital) and then maybe Luna Park at night if were up to it. Its pretty full on but we have Monday and Tuesdays off too so we can shop, laundry etc then :o)

Anyways, Just wanted to let you all know, Im still alive (my cooking hasnt killed me yet...), having fun, missing you all and looking forward to my upcoming adventures...Keep in touch...

Hugs and Kisses
Nurse Nichols :o)
