Today I paid off a 5 year loan I took out to buy a white cargo van. My ex had found it on CL and since it had a solar panel and converter, he could recharge his chair batteries in it while we were travelling. It had also been converted into a camper, with a bed and storage. The owner had been living in it but finally found a good paying job and an affordable apartment, plus he had gotten a DUI and needed to sell it to pay for attorney fees. I took out a small personal loan to finance the van and discovered the smog check hadn't been done correctly, so we never used it because I never had an extra $120 to take care of it. That white van sat in front of our home for a few months, then when things went south and I moved into my little shipping container home, I parked the van in the lot at work, where it sat until earlier this year. J and I have been using it to haul our booth items to the farmer's market every week, and paying a loan regularly ended up boosting my credit score, so even though that van was an albatross for the first few years I had it, it has proven to be quite a useful vehicle. J did not like my idea of spray painting "CANDY" on the side of it though.
It does feel prety great that the final vestige of that relationship and the financial hardships it put me through are over and done with and I am back on track.
