Christmas present buying is wacky.
Agree? On many levels. You have this range...some people would rather be surprised about what they get. On the other end of the spectrum, some people buy what they want as your "present" to them - and you just give them the money for it.
Some people are very specific about what they want and don't want.
Others give you a basic list and you just have at it.
You get big lists and short lists.
I think everybody agrees that Dads are impossible to buy for. Not only does my Dad have everything, he only likes certain things, so you can't help but get him virtually the same thing every year. The #1 homerun item for pops? An Amtrak gift cert. Well Dad, ask and ye shall receive. A quality runner up is cashews. I like to throw my own original twists into the gifts though, even if it's a piddly item. Surprises are good. It is Christmas right? So he's getting a coffee mug from a neat little train place up north.
I try to give people a broad range of ideas. That way I'm surprised, and they aren't locked into a tiny list. I have everything from CDs to a turkey deep fryer on my list. Most of my shopping is done, and I did about 90% online this year. It's a great way to go. You can get some sweet deals if you look for the coupon codes online before you buy.
Any shopping thoughts? Love it or loathe it? What did you ask Santa for?
