I am, despite it all, cheery

It's so fucking cold outside, the kind of cold that makes your skin hurt. I had to be out in the cold a lot today (bringing Gavin to school, going to the doc's office and back to get us in the queue, going to the doc's office with the baby and then to a drugstore and then back, going to a grocery store and then another drugstore and back) and normally being in the cold is the quickest possible way to send me into a funk and have me muttering, "Fucking Canada." But today all I could think of was, "Man, I love where I live. I am so grateful to live somewhere where I don't have to worry about my kids being killed in drive-by shootings, or being harassed by gangs, or having drug dealers all over the place. I'm grateful to live in a country where I don't worry about my children being killed or maimed or forced to fight as soldiers in a civil war, where I know they won't starve to death or die of diahrrea or malaria. I live somewhere where even though we're not rich I can still get my kids all the medical care they require, and if it turns out one or both of them is gay I know they'll be treated as equal citizens, including the rights to marry and adopt. I'm so glad to be where I am."

Gratitude. <3 I has it.

gratitude, canada
