A conversation at Tim Horton's

I can't believe I forgot to blog about this! This happened four or five days ago in a Tim Horton's. (For those of you who aren't Canuckistani, Tim Horton's is a coffee/donut shop, except that they're as prevalent as McDonalds up here in Canada. But just imagine a Dunkin Donuts or something and you'll be fine.)

Frolic and I and the kids are waiting in line and next to the line there's these two older women, probably in their early sixties, sitting at a table. One of them, we'll call her C, is in a motorized wheelchair and speaking loudly. We get close and they notice Mastermind in the sling and ask me about him. The usual questions: age, boy or girl? So we're chatting about kids and then C says, in that carrying-to-every-corner voice of hers, "I had a boy too! Well, a boy, and one abortion." I could almost feel all the people in line stiffening and C says, "Woo!" and raises her hands and pantomimes a bubble forming around her.

I started laughing and said, just as loudly, "Don't worry about it, I've had two abortions myself."

She says, "You had two?"

I said, "Yep," and she raises her hand in a high-5 gesture and I slap her high-5. And then we moved on to commiserating about breastfeeding and cosleeping (of which she did both herself). And then I told her about Mastermind's unassisted birth, which she thought was awesome. By that time we'd finished with the line so we got our donuts and started to leave, but I told Frolic to wait a minute and then I went back and asked if she lived in the neighborhood.

She does. She gave me her phone number. We'll hang out. I can tell she's totally my type of person. :D

It was like the coolest spontaneous Timmy's conversation EVER.

abortion, lollerz, friends
