So I'm off to California tomorrow and will be back on August 4. I am very much looking forward to this trip as I haven't seen my family and SoCal friends in almost a year now. It's going to be nice.
I'm going camping with one of my friends next weekend. I'm really looking forward to this because we haven't gone camping in six years or so and I miss him terribly. It'll be really nice to just be on our own for two days and spend hours talking. We talk on the phone but that just isn't the same as talking in real life. I've lived in Canada for over five years now but sometimes I still miss SoCal horribly. I miss my best friends and my family and certain places like Newport Beach.
On the downside, the amusement park closest to my house just put in a new roller coaster. It's the world's first rocket coaster and it goes from 0 to 82 MPH in just 2.3 seconds. This would normally be a good thing, but since I have no money and can't afford to go to the park, this is a bad thing. The entire time I'm home I'll be aware that just fifteen minutes away is the world's first rocket coaster, and I CAN'T RIDE IT.
Argh. Check it out here:

On a brighter note, I've gotten an offer to work as a midwife's assistant next month. It would require me to do 10 to 15 24-hour shifts on call (which doesn't necessarily mean working, it just means I'm constantly around and available to work at any minute if I'm needed). On a darker note, doing this requires me to get NPR certification and I will need to get it as soon as I get back to Toronto, so I have to memorize the 250-page NPR workbook while I'm in California. I hadn't exactly planned to spend almost all of my vacation time studying, but you have to do what you have to do. ;/ It's recommended that you study the book for a month before the test; I'll have nine days. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Well, I have packing to do. And I have to do some cooking so the fresh stuff in the fridge doesn't get wasted. And I have all those miscellaneous last-minute tasks that need to be done before one goes on vacation. *And* I have to drop the pug off with some friends who will be watching him. After all that is done then I'll have to get some sleep since I need to be off to the airport at 7:30 AM tomorrow. Morning flights, yuck. I'm a red-eye sort of person.
See you on the 4th, kids!
