Character Information
Name: Rene Richard Tamaki de Grantaine Suoh (better known as "Tamaki Suoh" XD)
Fandom: Ouran High School Host Club
Timeline Summary: After the ending of the manga; in a relationship with Haruhi Fujioka and has followed her (along with the rest of the club later, OTL) to study abroad in Boston. At this point in the series, he's 18.
Personality: Tamaki is friendly, cheerful, optimistic, and a complete ladies' man. He can charm his way out of a steel cage and can make any girl swoon with his charm and good looks. His job as a host suits him well; he loves playing to a crowd and he will do anything and everything to make a woman happy. He also has a soft spot for those in need, and he will do anything to help someone who is down in the dumps, especially if their problem involves family. Tamaki has a knack for remaining positive in the worst of situations and he is rarely seen thinking that anything is hopeless. He is a loyal friend and (as seen in the later manga chapters) a very devoted boyfriend, when in a relationship. Despite his natural narcissism and his belief that he is “perfect inside and out”, he constantly puts others before himself and will often shunt his own problems to the back burner when someone else is in need. However, he also has a less appealing side to his personality; he can be very stubborn, almost to the point that he will do anything to get his way. He is spoiled rotten and he expects to always get everything his whimsical heart desires. With a more immature side, he can often be seen sulking off in a corner when someone makes him unhappy, and he cries at the drop of a hat. A very emotional person, Tamaki’s moods change like the most unpredictable of weather. He can be a cheerful sunbeam one moment and the next be lying on the floor in a puddle of his own tears. Tamaki has apparently never heard the phrase “no use crying over spilt milk”. Despite his shortcomings, however, Tamaki makes up for them with his natural compassion and his ability to make others realize their true potential with his tireless optimism. He can offer sage advice and appear wise beyond his years, despite the fact that all this looms behind the pretty face of a cheerful idiot.
Background:
one, two (and I want to write some of my own because I love this guy XD)
Tamaki was born in France to Japanese businessman Yuzuru Suoh and his French mistress, Anne-Sophie Grantaine. Yuzuru divorced his wife when he found out Anne-Sophie was pregnant and married her against the wishes of his formidable mother, but due to her poor health (she suffered from Systemic Lupus Erythematosus) she was forced to stay in France and raise Tamaki while Yuzuru went back to Japan. She raised Tamaki in Barbizon, a small town just outside of Paris (with Yuzuru coming to visit as frequently as he could), until he was fourteen. Then, her health worsened even further and soon her family fell into debt. Seeing an opportunity to remedy the fact that the Suoh family was left without an heir, Tamaki's grandmother, Shizue, came to France and made a proposal. Anne-Sophie would stay in France and be financially looked after, which would mean the difference between life and death for her. In exchange, Tamaki would come to Japan and be trained to be the possible heir to the Suoh family, despite the fact that he was illegitimate, and be forbidden contact with his mother forever. Tamaki made the decision to go to France and immediately enrolled in Ouran Academy in Bunkyo, Tokyo. He was quick to make friends like Kyouya Ootori, and soon the two of them created the popular Host Club (recruiting the Hitachiin twins Hikaru and Kaoru and cousins Mitsukuni "Hunny" Haninozuka and Takashi "Mori" Morinozuka to join their ranks).
During his second year of high school, Ouran Academy's resident honor student, Haruhi Fujioka, visited the club by mistake and accidentally broke the vase that was up for auction. Believing her to be a boy, Tamaki forced her to repay her debt by acting as the club's errand boy, though he later allowed her to become a full-fledged host when he noticed her potential. After he discovered she was a girl and began entertaining tender feelings toward her, he decided (not wanting to realize his true feelings just yet), that they were the result of paternal love, and declared himself her father. Thus, the "family" of the host club was born (Tamaki named Kyouya the mother, the twins Haruhi's brothers, and Hunny and Mori the next door neighbors). Things continued this way until Tamaki's third year, when he finally, thanks to some nudging from Hikaru, realized that his feelings for Haruhi were actually romantic love. Meanwhile, his grandmother was formulating plans to have him moved to the main Suoh mansion, which he had been forbidden from before. Though he could now live in a place of honor, Tamaki was no longer allowed to see his friends. But his father also had a plan, making the board unanimously vote that Shizue should step down from her position as head of the board and therefore stripping her of power. Tamaki was so angry with his father that he refused to speak to him or come out of his room, even when his father brought Anne-Sophie to Japan. During this time he and Shizue struck up a friendship, despite the fact that before she had resented him deeply.
Meanwhile, the rest of the host club hatched a complicated plan to make Tamaki stop being stubborn and get to see his mother. They raced him (be helicopter and boat, what else?) to the airport at the last minute, and he was allowed to have a tearful and brief reunion with Anne-Sophie. Afterward, Haruhi confessed her love to Tamaki and, though he could not voice his own feelings, he kissed her. A few days later, while they were standing in the fountain, Tamaki told Haruhi that he really did love her. Shortly afterward the two began a relationship and when Haruhi decided to become a foreign exchange student and travel to Boston for a year, Tamaki followed her, getting them apartments in Boston connected by a door. However, much to Tamaki's dismay, the rest of the host club followed soon after. His story ended with he and Haruhi in a happy relationship and with their "family" close at hand, living in the same apartment building and continually popping in to bother the clueless couple, with the restrictions that had once kept him from seeing his beloved mother dropped completely.

First Person: I can't believe that Kogane could be this late picking me up! What in the world could be taking him so long? If I don't hurry I might miss my date with Haruhi and SHE'LL THINK THAT HER DARLING BOYFRIEND DOESN'T LOVE HER! Forget the car, I'll run there! I'M COMING, HARUHI!
Third Person: Barreling down the hall at breakneck speed, Tamaki whizzed by other students, humming happily under his breath. To the people around him he appeared more a blue-and-blonde blur than an actual person due to the speed at which he soared down the brightly lit pink corridors, and it was a horrifying sight to onlookers. Tamaki was humming a line from his favorite of Beethoven’s sonatas and his fingers itched to shape the notes on his piano, but that was for later. For now, the package in his hand was just aching to be revealed to the rest of the host club, and he could not reach music room three fast enough.
“This is my best idea yet!” he said aloud to himself as he whooshed by Ritsu Kasanoda, leaving him looking rather stunned in his wake. “Tamaki, you are such a genius! Oh, sometimes I amaze even myself. Just wait until Kyouya hears about this!”
“This”, today, happened to be a cosplay theme involving a particular tropical island he had watched a documentary on the previous night while flipping channels. He had had one of his personal designers quickly whip up an outfit made entirely of banana leaves, and he was carrying the prototype wrapped in silk against his chest at the moment, practically bursting with excitement. The song in his heart threatened to burst forth past his lips as he ran, still humming crazily to himself and practically skipping with glee. This was going to be the host club’s finest theme ever, no doubt.
