Just like SYTYTCD US Season 7 before I quit watching after Alex left, it's going to be a testosterone fest for Canada this year for me. I can barely remember a single girl (how sad, but seems to be the usual case) or maybe it's a lack of likability factor with so many.
First, I am pretty sad, that despite casting 11 guys this year for top 22 instead of top 20, they couldn't fit
Alvin, who is made of awesome-ness for this season. He probably for me had the most memorable solo audition based solely on dance and I'm sure his choice of music most certainly helped as well. I only remembered him briefly last year but it was a lot better to watch him this year (I found him a tad spastic in season 2).
He wasn't as heart broken about it then I thought when he found out (unlike Jenny), which was nice to see as he seemed so grateful. Him, and
Justin were the biggest surprise of not making it (been a fan of him since he first audition I think last season). I'm not quite sure exactly what began the interest in Moses, who I can't find a single clip but now that I think about it, didn't get much screen time, (maybe it was the half Asian to make a full Asian comment with Alex during Ballroom in finals). I guess it just means that they're saving them for season 4 to make sure we're still watching (could we get rid of Leah while we're at it?)
Well here's briefly a few dancers I'm looking towards to:
- Jeff (His solo could use a bit of tweaking but seeing him during finals in both years that flexibility even during stretches. OMG!) Will you do Ukrainian solos too? I hope so b/c they're always so fun to watch.
- Jonathan (Touching story about his passion for dance and what he could have lost) It's a bit odd how medical miracles happened, but I'm not complaining
- Sebastian (He's like the fusion of Mark's quirkiness (season 4) and Billy Bell's flexibility (season 7) into one being that Rex Harrington made allusion to Edward Scissorhands, AWESOME)
What do they all have in common apart from being contemporary dancers? They're all season 2 returnees that I recall. I'm also rooting for Yonni, another returnee but in ballroom. I love contemporary dancers and all, but still I love me some hip hop done justice too... So needed more. Then again, if any of them can pull
an Alex (who's technically Canadian anyway), then we should be ok. I'm waiting for BC feed of CTV to check out their solos. I think it's a sign... we need an all guys season. or at least do a better job of casting girls. Can't wait to watch tomorrow. I will ignore Leah or at least try as she screeches on my screen (the dancing will hopefully make up for it).
And watch months from now these links may become n/a... I'll enjoy it while it last.
