Lovely Complex, the movie

So, it took over a day for Lovely Complex the Movie to finish downloading. Not really knowing what to expect of it, I decided to give it a shot since the plot line was adorable and I've been following the anime. I took a quick sneak peek at the list of the actors, and the only one that I knew was Nami Tamaki. I didn't know she already started to act *dies*

The movie was adorable and at some point, pretty cheesy, and I can't help but wonder if I'd like it even more if I wasn't watching the anime already since I knew most of the events already. It was sorta disappointing not to see the main so called enemy/conflict occur until the last 1/2 hour of the movie. Though, I think it was kind of nice to see the development of the 2 main characters though the movie. The style of the sequence was a bit reminiscent of Nodame Cantabile's Live Action with the exaggerations and implementations of manga like things such as nose bleeds and sparkles.

Some things I liked about the movie:
  • It was amusing how the first thing I noticed was that the sempai that Risa confessed to was the same person that played Yuki's boyfriend in HanaDan
  • The pacing wasn't overly bad until the end, where it felt rushed. I actually liked how they kind of fast forwarded through the events. Though, I'm sure I wouldn't have liked it as much if I haven't watched the anime. There's too much to cover in an hour and a half.
  • I like the different portrayal of Suzuki. I couldn't stop laughing at his nose bleed moments.
  • The background music was really nice and went really well with the movie.
Some things I was neutral:
  • Somehow, the cast wasn't horrible, nor good in terms of choice to play the roles. I didn't really really hate any of them, but I didn't really gush at them all that much. There were moments they performed in particular well, other parts were they haven't
  • Somehow, I didn't feel Risa and Otani's chemistry as well as I thought I would.
  • In terms of accuracy, I can't tell all that much as I haven't read the manga, but I'm watching the anime. For example, does Risa even have a sister? Though, I would have loved to see Risa's childhood friend, Haruka or something?
Some things I disliked about the movie:
  • There were some really super cheesy moments. Though I guess with the story plot as it is.
  • The engrish narration... I like the implementation, but the execution could have been better since it was a struggle understanding him with a lot of words.
  • Somehow, it felt more like watching many episodes compressed rather than a movie. Whether that's a good thing I don't know....
When I was looking at the credits after the movie, I realized Eiji Wentz was in it. I've only seen him briefly in Gokusen. I didn't even notice him in the movie the first time around since apparently he was acting as a dancing Yoshiko. I had no idea what the heck that was, so I googled it, and it took about 4 combinations of searches before I would get an answer. Thank you to whoever pointed it out on Youtube. It took 5 times of me watching that sequence to find him. If no one said anything, I would have never noticed it.

Overall, the movie is pretty much sitting on a fence in terms of whether I liked it or not. I haven't seen enough Japanese movies to make much of a judgment. I've only seen NANA, Death Note, Battle Royale and Heavenly Forest. The saddest part with all those movies is that I can't really compare any of them all that much because they all dealt with a totally different plot line. In comparison to manga versus the adaptation, I can't even compare it because I haven't read it. Though, I did enjoy this more than NANA and Death Note.

Now, I actually want to give Honey and Clover a shot again. I watched the first epiosde of the anime somewhere in my first semester of University. I got not only lost, but very bored of the series. I was very disappointed given the hype about it. I think this time I'll start with the movie and see what happens. I did that for NANA I think, but that didn't turn out so well. Though, that was mainly because of my interest to NANA wasn't all there (and still isn't).

On a somewhat unrelated news, I didn't notice until yesterday that both the opening and ending theme of Lovely Complex were sung by Tegomass. I guess i just didn't pay much attention as I didn't know who they were. After My Boss my Hero, I finally know that Sakura-something is in both Tegomass and NewS. Oh Johnny's, how I only know you from dramas. Otherwise, I don't think I'd know much of them. Somehow, comparing the information I've been reading of Arashi and NewS, Arashi has more random things that are quite a good laugh. It's probably from access to this information and me being able to tell the difference between the people in Arashi more than NewS. I still have trouble finding Yamapi sometimes >_<;;; I've learned one of the members... Kyoyama or whatever his name is really loves to talk. I was watching NewS exposed on Youtube, and I couldn't stop laughing at so many parts. I also found out NewS sings a song for one of the One Piece movies and the PV is super cute! The pirate animation is really cute! Ryo's voice somewhat reminds me of Rain (Bi) for some reason... It felt somewhat similar to me.

Icons in the making for this movie? Quite likely. But not in this entry. Still in need of catching up on LJ reads...
