I've allowed my LJ paid account to expire. Why? I'm not really sure. Mainly because I use it significantly less than I use to. But then, almost everyone I know uses their LJ significantly less than we use to. Twitter and Facebook have become the champions of the interwebs.
I just can't get behind Twitter though. 140 characters? If I want to microblog, I'll update my Facebook status. I don't need constant reminders on my phone, even if I could figure it out, about what my friends are doing at any given moment. OH, I have an account, if only to prevent people from using my name as a Twitter account, but I never use it.
I'm on Facebook a lot more these days. I know some people who use Facebook for everything, even to the extent of not checking their personal email any more. I'm not quite that extreme, but I do use it for various uses.
The thing is, I just don't have the kind of time I used to. Five or six LJ entries a day? I can barely manage five or six a month now. I thought my life was busy before dating and moving in with a woman with three kids. But I can't exactly blame her and the kids for that, because I made LJ entries when I was in California in 2005, and I was living with a woman with FOUR kids then. But that was entirely different from this.
Still, on the whole, it didn't make a whole lot of sense to keep paying for something I wasn't using nearly as much as I used to. So thanks LJ, you served a fantastic purpose, and I'm happy to keep using you, but I won't be paying for the privilege any more.
